Lemme start off this review by letting you know that I tire of political discussions in and about games more than some and to that degree I couldn't give less a dookie how 'woke' or not this game is. My frustration stems from combat.

Buying and playing this has made me seriously question my life decisions.
In my endless pursuit to play Action RPGs with a parrying mechanic and beat them by abusing said mechanic I found out that the combat in this game is absolutely, utterly and total horrid nonsense.
Not only that spacebar opens a Drakensang and Witcher1 like menu that freezes time in order for you to do things, no, you have hotkeys to attribute pretty much anything to.

And I mean the World of Warcraft kind of hotkeys, not keybinds. Which would be fine but mind you, this is an Action RPG. I would have understood if this was a third person strategy game but nah, in fact this is real-time combat oriented. Now the pacing would be better if the devs would have lowered the recovery frames on pretty much any and all combat animations.
Yes.

Fighting with Swords feels bad
Fighting with Hammers feels bad
Fighting with Pistols feels bad
Fighting with Rifles feels bad
Fighting with Magic feels bad
Parrying feels like a joke and whatever this alternate attack 'Kick' has the energy of 'Good idea executed horribly bad' because what good is this kick gonna do if the stun caused by it quite literally lasts as long as your recovery frames do so you get maybe one hit in before you have to wait your turn.

Mind you - this wouldn't be so bad, considering that you are not just fighting bog standard people. Oh no, you are also fighting things where the kick is radically useless.

This game is from 2019 and I can confidently say that Focus has learned A TON about combat ever since - as evident with Space Marine 2. However I am slowly shifting over to the crowd who is not going to pay a single bloody dime for a game before testing it 'borrowed' because I shelved this game for a cozy evening where I felt like I wanted to play something different.

Already familiar with this games jank mind you but not as much so on PC, because when I was playing it on console I had the naive thought it would be playing better on PC.

Oh the humanity! Can you believe the absolute humiliation crashing over my self once I realized I quite literally wasted money AND my time buying this on PC instead of testing it beforehand? I am sure some gamer dad in his 50s is going to have a BLAST playing this game on easy difficulty and just enjoy the story.

Good for you, my guy, good for you. I on the other hand would happily slap the manager who was responsible for these combat gameplay decisions with the ribcage of Eddie Murphy because can't stop won't stop sorry not sorry but at this point I am not quite sure who is worse at decision making, you or me.

In any case, don't buy this, unless you feel like playing on Easy and spam the Shift Key and M1 like a pavlovian trained monkey. And even if you were, I am sorry to disappoint but after 3 hours I haven't found any bananas in this game and I don't think there are.

I was initially like "yay, trucks, spintires! woo!" and then got disappointed by a tutorial annoyingly on rails even when the game seemingly drops you in its open world and as someone who grew up around nature, farms and those muddy paths you have to traverse in this game? It is absolutely not worth the money IMO. Like yeah, guys, you improved since Spintires but holy ♥♥♥♥ do 4x4s not get stuck so easily in the smallest piss puddle you can find.

And that wouldn't be an issue if ppl wouldn't praise it for its realism. This isn't realism. So if the other reviews gave you that impression - let this be a way to tell you it's not if that's your main selling point.

I'm not a big boomer shooter fan cos I usually can't play those types of games for very long before they become boring (I know, 1st world problems) but becoming John Space Marine is pretty cool ngl. Or, well, maybe not straight up Robert Girlyman but 1st company Malum Caedo? Sheesh that is pretty damn cool.

ALSO IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW BUT THIS KINDA SORTA PLAYS AFTER SPACE MARINE 1
So spoiler alert if for a 14 year old game or smth

Yes. I was the kid that was sitting at the toy digger and just had fun for days.
Yes, I don't mind playing this solo sometimes and I wouldn't mind others to join in on this.

This...was oddly charming.
AND TO BE HONEST I DID NOT EXPECT THAT DEPTH OF STORY FROM A SIMULATOR GAME.
This game literally play with the perspective of the player. Nudging the fourth wall just enough to raise attention but not enough to rip you out of it entirely. It's cool. And 100%ing it wasn't a pain in the arse. Was actually a joy.

Seriously if they make a sequel, I would love more voice acting, this stuff was cool, like really cool

100 Minutes in:
10 Minutes Character Creator (It's good ngl, major PLUS)
10 Minutes Combat (It's easy for me and I like the gameplay, major PLUS)
80 Minutes Cutscenes, Tutorials, Cutscenes, BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA
LET ME PLAY THE FOOKEN GAME WHAT THE HELL CAPCOM THIS IS POSSIBLY, THE MOST AND UTTERLY WORST PACING I EVER HAD IN ANY GAME, IT IS FRUSTRATING ME SO HARD LIKE CASUALS ARE FRUSTRATED PLAYING SOULSGAMES

Worlds and Rise had Story too, given, yes, you could argue that, sure.
BUT NOT THAT FOOKEN MUCH?! YOU ACTUALLY GOT TO PLAY THE GAME? I ONLY HUNTED LIKE 3 MONSTERS THAT WERE EASY AS BOLLOCKS AND NOW I AM STUCK VISITING YET ANOTHER BLOODY CAMP, YAPPING ON.

NO.
JUST NO.
I DIDN'T EVEN PAY FOR THIS GAME AND I WANT A REFUND.
A REFUND OF MY FOOKEN LIFETIME MAN
