I gotta say. I'm a returning player from MH3U and MH4U and this game is fun. I won't lie I have a lot of fun just going on a monster massacre. The game has never been more accessible with lots of cool aesthetic armor sets. Transmog is also very welcome. However... The story is literally the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slog of crap you are forced to do that I was just skipping every cutscene and screaming "WHYYYYYYYY!?" I literally do not care. The story should have been given through optional side-quests because you're just a hunter hunting monsters. You could help these people who aren't hunters and maybe learn a little about their culture through just wanting to help, but as it stands, you just have 5 minute walking sections and a 10 minute cutscene of a guy going "Whoa.. a lala barina feather. Oh whoa! ANOTHER lala barina feather.. Oh.. my god.. a THIRD lala barina feather! I think a lala barina might be close by" Dude nobody ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cares. Let me hunt the monster. I've been reading some of these negative comments, though and I can't help but agree. Crafting feels almost pointless and I didn't really stop to gather any materials, not because it's boring or difficult in any way, but just because it never really felt like I needed to. I kind of just always have everything I need all the time. I've maybe killed and gathered some meat and BBQ'd steaks on occasion, but I don't even need to grill meals either. I literally just eat BBQ steaks and slaughter monsters and it never feels like I need to do anything more. I remember in the old games, gathering material and crafting items was not only fun, but felt necessary to tackle the challenge ahead. Which leads me to my next point.. Challenge.. hunting a monster is not hunting. You get paint in this game, but what is it even for? You have an indicator on your map for every monster (except 1 story quest which hides the monster until you find a thingy on the floor and THEN it just tells you where it is) and your seikrat will just run directly to it by hitting UP on the D-pad. You don't need to paint the monster at all. It's actually just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pointless. Paint in the old games told you where the monster was, which is obviously useful, but uh.. considering every monster is painted permenantly by default, why is it even in the game still? Really didn't think about that one, huh CAPCOM?

Look.. overall it's great fun especially with friends, but $70? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.. Half of that money is spent on the most god awful and pointless story ever to have been shoehorned into a game. If this game was $40 I'd say it's absolutely worth it, but for 70? Idk man.. I had fun with it, but I'm already kind of "finished" with it and it hasn't even been a week. I still wouldn't mind hunting some monsters here and there, but I have no more goals anymore. Time to wait for updates I guess.

Overall I'd say it's like a 6/10 Better than average, not worth $70, but definitely fun. I do wish to learn other weapons to extend my time with the game, but idk if I'd want to kill Arkveld 300 more times but with different weapons. I'm going to recommend this game, but just keep in mind, my recommendation comes from very mixed emotions about it.

While the gameplay is fun and the character creation is pretty, CODE VEIN is, and I hate to use Dark Souls as comparisons normally, LITERALLY Anime Dark Souls.. The downside is that the level design seems to be aimless mazes rather than having any sort of direction, like Dark Souls has. This results in you running around lost for hours before you just so happen to stumble upon where to go. This is not fun.. it's not fun to look at, it's not fun to wade through. Maybe I'll change my mind as I keep progressing, but so far the level design is is so lackluster it's dragging the rest of the game down with it. You'll be seeing glowy veins for quite a while before finally arriving at the Anor Londo clone.. Except that this Anor Londo clone is terrible compared to actual Anor Londo. While in Anor Londo, the path was set for you, and you only had to figure out how to get there, This game literally just twists and turns with the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ set of stairs as the last set of stairs.. Fall off here and.. aren't I just back where I started? Let me check the map... WHAT? 10% This level is HUGE.. and not in a good way.. It's huge, but it all looks the exact same with washed out color and endless staircases EVERYWHERE. The enemies aren't even difficult compared to what I gotta look at while fighting them. If you can get over this, or use a guide, the rest of the game has many mechanics and features that I really do enjoy. Combat is fun, if not a little weird.. Hits don't really feel like they connect unless you're using a heavy weapon, but dancing around enemies smacking them with a hammer is so fun I kinda just wanna keep doing it. So why do I recommend this game if I have so many bad things to say? It feels like Dark Souls, but you can go really far with the character customization.. And I'm into that. It was one of the few things I wish Dark Souls did better. The game is definitely worth a shot, ESPECIALLY if you can get it on sale. I don't think I could justify spending $60 on this, but the 8$ I spent made this buy pretty spectacular. I will end up beating it, and if anything changes in my time from now til then, maybe I'll adjust this review.

I honestly thought this game was really dumb. Jumpscares are just not scary. The graphics were okay, but the aesthetic was just silly.. My gf was recommended this game so we bought it to try it out and just weren't having it. We laughed at how dumb and predictable everything was and the puzzles were basically "Look at the colors.. put in the colors. Grab tape. Put in tape. Get stupid dialogue about experiments" or something.. I just couldn't take this seriously as a horror game, as a mystery game, or as a game for that matter. I'd like a refund. This "game" was just a waste of 1.7h

No we didn't beat it. We just thought it was dumb.

A buddy of mine recommended this game, so I got it. I honestly couldn't sit through the first 5 minutes. It was so annoying and grating with horrible audio quality. You couldn't pay me to play this. I'd like my $3 back with an extra $5 so I can buy a sandwich to make up for lost time.

Early Access Review
When I first looked at this I thought it looked pretty cool. Looked similar to a bullet hell RPG or something. I had NO IDEA what was in store for me. I loaded it up, played the prologue and the moment I could freely move I halted and was thinking to myself, "Oh.. This is gonna be huge." Since then I haven't been able to put it down. It's all I think about. This is hands down my favorite game of this decade so far. I can't wait for the full release of the game. Until then I'm doing all the side quests and attempting to get all of the chests. I gotta be prepared for the new updates that are coming out. Buy this game. You won't regret it. 10/10
