Early Access Review
First off this game is in alpha. This means that the game still has issues and isn't feature complete.

TL;DR The game has a few issues but is still quite good.

I have enjoyed this game so far it has many features I enjoy more than Dungeon Defenders 1.

The gathering mana system has greatly improved. Instead of going around to all the chests on the map you just have to interact with one. The other thing about the mana system that is a huge improvement is that you don't lose mana when you pick up a large chunk for example, if you only have space for 5 mana left and you picked up 10 in DD1 you would lose 5 mana in DD2 you gain 5 mana and 5 mana drops on your player. The only issue I have is with dropping mana, you can only drop 10 at a time and there is no drop all mana button.

The sub-core system is fantastic in my opinion. You can easily just build up around your main cores and deal with extra mobs released from destroyed sub-cores or you can spread your defenses out more, take that risk and the payout is a fair bit more exp.

The skill / tower build system now gives you four options instead of five. This is both a pro and a con to me. The fewer skills and fewer towers you have, the more balanced the game will be. This is because it will be that much simpler to balance, but on the other hand that extra skill or extra tower would be nice. The placement system for some of the monk's auras are slightly aggravating. If you build the monk's auras first you can then place traps or towers quite close to then, however if you build traps or towers first then you can't place the auora in the same spot as if you did the order the other way around. On a side note all the towers look quite nice.

Mob pathing seems to be fairly good. I have had a few issues where mobs get stuck behind the spawner wall and have had to use skills to kill them. I get the occasional mob stuck on a wall but as the game development progresses I am finding this to be less and less of an issue. Also flying kobolds are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The maps are pretty exciting. They look quite nice and every map has it's environmental traps. The environmental traps can also be activated from a player shooting at it which is nice for when you can't get over there in time but there have been a few times when a stray shot has activated it. The maps are also where the game shows being in alpha a little bit. There are still a few ways to get outside of some of the maps, but as of the latest patch (November 21 2014) many of those have been fixed.

Solo play versus group play is a huge difference. The ideal way to play this game is with a party of four. This is due to the item drop system giving higher chances to parties with more people in it.

The game still lacks a trade system that makes me sad, but it looks like it's coming. There are references to it in the config files for the game.

I know there is content missing and I am looking forward to seeing how the game development progresses.
