Leaving a negative review until the PSN account rug pull is addressed.

Good game, bad practice. That's a lot of goodwill to lose so quickly. That was efficient.

OK, so. Dragon's Dogma 2

It's just Dragon's Dogma... again. It really is. The pawns are smoother looking, and have a couple more voice lines per action or set piece than they used to have. But it's just Dragon's Dogma. If you like the original you will like this one. It has some issues tho.

Performance is BAD in cities and crowded areas. Just bad. Thankfully combat in cities has been rare, at least for me, at least so far, but it's not excusable.

I cannot understand what kind of a creature would think selling in game items was a good idea. This is a single player game, with MILD online interactivity. This is not co-op, or PVP, or PVPVE or whatever. You will not have other players in your world at any time ever for any reason, and it does not connect to a server for gameplay at ANY time. It has also already been hacked INSTANTLY. Mods were available on day TWO that eliminated the cost from any shop, including the items that are being sold, or just adds them to the existing vendors, or spawns them in game with a command. This reeks of executive interference. Some C level idiot thought MTX is more money and forced it in, with no regard for structure, safety, or anything else.

There is a tiny, and I mean TINY, disclaimer on the store page that items bought for the pre-release version, or super mega edition or whatever it's called, can be found later in game. This was intentional, dishonest, and vile. Not uncommon. But still vile.

Voice acting is hit and miss. Some of it is actually so weird that it gave me AI generated vibes. I can't find any evidence for it, and it is likely just the result of them using AI to modulate voices up and down to use fewer voice actors, but still. Some of it is just weird. It's not bad... per se. More bored sounding or just weirdly monotone. None of the major characters have that issue but it IS there.

The performance issues would have marred this release by themselves, the MTX atrocity is just a tornado on top of a garbage fire. They deserve the hit they will take from this for sure. But there's a few crab people like me who loved the first game and just wanted that again. And that experience is here. Plus some quality of life improvements and newer graphics. Aiming with the bow is so much better now, both manual aim and auto aim work fine, the new classes are fun and interesting, the world is beautiful and I actually often prefer travelling on foot because going from point A to point B is just fun. The quests are simple but work and the pawns are a great help when you just need to know where to go next. It's just lovely when it all works together.

I was worried this would not be Dragon's Doma-ey enough. It is. It is what I wanted out of it. I bought the basic version, ignored the dlc page, and got what I wanted. I don't think they should be rewarded for these practices, but if your only concern is its Dragon's Domagness then get it. It is what you think it is and nothing else.

Worth it if you have people to play with. Randos are a very risky bet. Maybe wait until they add a single player mode with unlocks.

Too buggy for actual release. Pirates, including your captain, get stuck upon getting on shore way too frequently. There's a load button constantly present just so you can go back and try again, but after several dozen times of trying to get your crew off the ship and not all stuck at once you just give up. It's a good concept. It's also not finished. Do. Not. Get. This.

Ok, time for another "Are you like me?!" segment.

You're reading reviews. this game has been in your wishlist for YEARS. Is it worth it?
Yes. Yes it is.

Listen this looks a LOT different in the store than it feels to play. It's a lot more brutal than you expect. Hell the whole game is set up to let you know you are going to lose characters. Constantly.

That's OK tho, it's all part of the plan, and, if you decide to use it, every killed hero makes your next hero stronger. Everything is so gods damn consistent it's really hard to put down. You still get those moments where you're exploring a floor all happily and then you see a specific sprite you recognize and freeze. "Oh ♥♥♥♥, it's that thing that killed me 3 heroes ago. What do I have in my inventory that will save me from this" what makes the game exceptional is that the in-between moments where you're just grinding to get back where you were, are cut as short as they can possibly be.

I was never bored playing. Nor did I ever hesitate to make a new character because I would have to go through the levelling process all over again. It's a slim, svelt, roguelike that is at the same time really forgiving and yet very faithful to the feel of the genre.

Plus the creator added pets just recently. For free. I have chicken. And you should too.

Hi there,

Are you like me? have you watched the game played in its entirety before? Multiple times, maybe? Are you staring at this page in a sale at some point asking yourself: Is it worth it?

It is, it's so much fun to play. It's worth it. Full price for someone that has been living under a rock and never heard of it.
But if you're like me, know it already, it's on sale and still don't know I am here to tell you go for it.

Ok, listen. The videos for this game on the store page may be a little misleading. Not necessarily in a bad way, or by sinister motives.

This game's videos make it seem like a series of boss battles and it is. But it makes it seem like they all live right there and are easy to find. It's more like a hunting game. You need to learn the map, set traps, and catch you prey multiple times.

Listen, if you are a little patient and are willing to put in a little effort, this game is a 10/10. Highly recommend it.
