SOMA is a game made by the same people who made Amnesia, which you probably know, considering it was a major PR move for them. You can expect mostly the same gameplay if you've played other Amnesia games; hide, get to the next area, and figure out HOW to get to the next area without being eaten by an incomprehensible abomination. What sets this apart from Amnesia however, is the story. The story is dark, and gripping. It touches on various philosophical concepts such as what it means to be human, and to be alive.

The gameplay isn't much to talk about, unfortunately. At least in my opinion, the monster segments only drag the rest of the game down, as the game suddenly completely changes abruptly, and without warning as soon as you encounter an enemy. Fortunately, you are able to enter a "safe mode" which disables damage and for the most part stops them from attacking at all, but that just leaves you with a walking simulator.

Despite the setbacks posed by the gameplay, the story itself is absolutely worth it at full price. I probably sound overdramatic saying this, but it genuinely stuck with me, and I still think about it even after almost a year. I whole-heartedly recommend you get the game if you enjoy a good story. There are also mods that will let you play entirely new campaigns, and even let you make your own given the know-how and technical skills.
