It's fun. Love the style and there's lots to collect and grind out.

Great team builder and collectathon. Lots of cool species of monsters that all have a unique trait that can really shake up your teams strategy. On top of that you can fuse monsters together to get twice the amount of traits and occasionally get a color palette that looks good (or not but you can always just go back to the monsters default colors).

I will say the game has some great options to respect your time such as turbo mode which lets you just hold down a button to fast forward through combat turns. It is grindy though so if you don't like just chilling out and plowing through some stages to kill the time and gather loot then maybe it's not your cup of tea.

That isn't to say the game doesn't have any challenges. Assuming you don't just copy someone's team idea you can spend a lot of time coming up with an excellent strategy to take on challenging content more efficiently and that is my favorite part of the game.

From what I saw in the full release patch notes resources are a little less scarce so it might be less of a grind to get equipment leveled than I remember. Also if you like cranking the difficulty and risking a loss you are rewarded for that with increased drop amount for items which helps you find rare drops more consistently.
