I started off breaking into a shack and stealing a toaster and running off giggling into the night

Although it doesn't have near the variety that stoked my imagination playing Thief: the dark project as a child. It strummed the same chords of patient, casual trespassing and holding my breath while crouching in a darkened corner while a guard walks idly by.

The long and short of the game is the more you steal, the more cool thief gear you can afford; which makes some levels easier, much of it isn't useful in many areas. Just driving around in my crappy car and trying my luck in houses.

Mid-game I was more nuanced, sneaking into a house an hour before a tenant went out and locked the house down with shutters, just leaving me crawling about in the dark hoping his wife doesn't spot me and taser me. And defeating electronic security to unlock the house from the inside while she was asleep, and skip out the front door with their toaster.

I got a big panel van that didn't at all look suspicious, got a hideout and couldn't be bothered to decorate it. I had untold wealth and nothing to really spend it on coming up towards the end, regardless I kept enjoying most of the separate properties and the approach of being able to go wherever I want, whenever I wanted.

I ended up blowing up a mansion with several innocent security guards in it, in an act of revengeful domestic terrorism. Also I stole their toaster

Played this with a good friend of mine, it was enough to challenge us at parts and very fun!
But was mostly very intuitive and we worked through on our own (apart from the obligatory morse code puzzle - why, devs?)

Other than morse code puzzle, the only issue was that it was a little short for the price.

If a couple of thickies like us could do it and have fun, so could you and your friend!

I play with headphones and this game scares the fondue out of me.

Also, if you get a chance to play it at a LAN, it is nearly unmatched fun, much screaming.

EDIT: A recent update had broken matchmaking so horribly that this is now unplayable.
Edit edit: Ok I think they fixed it, took them a year. Also game is dying.

Edit: THE GAME IS NOW IN THE WORST STATE IT HAS EVER BEEN, THERE IS NO POINT PLAYING AS SURVIVOR ANYMORE AND THE BALANCE HAS BEEN THROWN OUT THE WINDOW

Although it shows a small playtime for me, I've played this game to completion around 10 times since it's release.

In 2004 a Troika in dire financial straits released their game based on the popular tabletop white wolf games universe, known as the world of darkness. A license with so much potential that has never before, or since sadly had a good representation in games. And this game would have rocketted them into the big leagues, there was only one problem...

I actually remember walking into a GAME store, looking at the isles of new releases... to my left, a small cluster of VTM:Bloodlines boxes, to my right, an entire WALL full of half life 2 boxes. (And further along for consoles, Halo 2 and MGS 3...yikes)

There could not have been a worse time for release, troika went down.

Now I walked out of that shop with an interesting choice that day, a copy of V:tm bloodlines, I figured I would get HL 2 the following month, which became two months, which became three. And when I finally got it, I knew I made the right choice before.

What I am taking an incredible around the houses way of saying is this game is AMAZING.

Broken in some ways, and hasnt aged great but for its day it was completely atmospheric and immersive in ways I couldn't imagine, even now every scene, level and hub is just as free flowing and every cm of it drenched in the kind of loving attention and detail that developers still haven't caught up with. The sound track is beautiful, sometimes terrifying and always the perfect company to the gameplay. And the characters, every named NPC has a personality I could years later even from brief interactions describe, they all have depth and impact, and almost every single one you could probably make a game out of their life story as well.

It's an aged game, but please give this a chance, patch it, play it and be drawn in to a true masterpiece.

These are the most important things you need to know:

Constantly evolving game from one of the most community minded and concientious developers I've ever experienced.

The community is the least toxic one of any large online game that I've ever seen, I've met one truly toxic player during my entire time playing.

Yes, there is a lot of grind, but the nuances between different frames, setups of the various weapons and levels with enemy types meshes so well with solid core mechanics that you won't mind.

It is not pay to win, the in game currency you can build up if you wish without spending a real penny via trading in game.

I really enjoy this, and I enjoy feeling I can trust a developer.

This game is adorable, charming, with great level design and every little part of it is bursting with character. The difficulty is spot on and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Edit: Ok, So I've now played through this game, the flawed masterpiece sequel and now AMAZING 3rd game. I came to realise how fun it could be, dark souls is always hardest when your character is new, there is a sweet spot you hit normally some time after the 2nd boss where you get a feel for what you can manage.

So yes, I've been converted, this game is great, challenging as hell, I still find the PvP no fun but the PvE is enough to save it

I have been on and off playing this for at the time of writing around two and a half years. Waiting patiently for it to come out.

The first thing I would like to point out is although work has been slow, the devs have been open with their plans and realistic in their aims with only occasional lapses in communication - I don't mind waiting in cases like this where a dev is up front and honest.
Do I trust them to continue working on this? yes.

Second big point is that the real joy of this game is once you get your bearings exploring and finding out about the world, it feels expansive, majestic and just different enough to always feel alien.
The Immersion is the selling point for me, I could build a helicopter and fly up a mountain just to park up and watch the sunset and listen to the music.


Thirdly, the AI and the building system. Not great at the moment, but I prefer to forge ahead solo in my own creations so in this respect I'd like to point out how generally unobtrusive parts of the game that you have no interest in can be. It doesn't effect my fun.

I can't continue playing, the boar smashing its little face into the floor is just too funny. I mean every time it cracks me up with the animation and that little squishy thud of its face hitting the floor.

Oh also the puzzles so far are fun.

But its worth it just to put something on the down key, and watch it face-plant the floor for a few hours.
