For a lovingly crafted immersive sim this is an absolute steal

I like supporting small developers, they seem very wholesome and friendly.
I liked the short free game for its squickiness in description and art. And respect the gall to put puns in a horror game, rough around the edges in all the endearing ways.
(If I could offer one suggestion please, variable text speed for us speedy readers would be nice)

Every few years I circle back here for a few games.

This is a battle royale game entirely free of toxicity, the player count isn't what it was but it remains fun and truly stress free.

Not a bad survival horror, especially made by a team of just 4 people and borrowing plenty of piecemeal parts from some older games such as Resident evil.

Surprisingly it has more bosses (3) than it does types of normal enemy (2)
Some of the puzzles are quite tricky and I suspect some of the nuance is lost in the English translation.

I wasn't scared at any point, but I wasn't bored either.

One of the best core gameplay loops I've seen, bursting with character and you can tell a lot of love went into it!

Of the whole game there are only two very very minor complaints:
1. Quick time events, although it gets a pass as they are fairly generous and only show up in succeed or die twice.
2. The final boss is a bullet hell, the saving grace is a last second slow time mechanic introduced just for it, still.

And that's it, all I could complain about, which is just incredible.

The combat is abysmally bad, mostly because:
1. Hit boxes are so wildly wrong, and the sprites are a mere suggestion of where to aim
2. There is no move cancellation, you are locked in and can't adjust accordingly to fights

And the main character is just so horribly unpleasant in every way, you want your protagonist to be someone likeable

IT ENDED WITH A SONG

It pains me to not recommend this game, as it seems fairly bug free and is full of life and character.

The thing that drags it down is the relative price tag, I've 3 hours in it and done more or less all content. And one of those hours was me forgetting to turn the game off. The map is exceptionally small, you could dash from one end of it to the other in about a minute, the vertical-ity helps but not too much

If it was half the price it would be a strong recommend, but I cannot justify the relatively huge price tag for this adorable little title.

ARK is great. I will change this to a thumbs up as soon as the devs fix the massive issue with constant crashing

I don't regret kickstarting this years ago.

The story:
What is boils down to is four characters, one with a tale of revenge, one with a tale of growing up and finding their own feet, one of reclaiming lost history/culture, and one of coming to terms with a stable ground after having to evolve to survive for a long time.

They are pretty well written, fairly adorable, and not afraid of profanity.

The combat:
Mostly boss battles, they are simple and admittedly easy.
NO GRINDING
Heavy emphasis on atmosphere and set pieces for the fights, very good

The graphics and sound
The variety and beauty of the scenes are amazing, it's done so well and very beautiful. Only thing that ever stood out as janky were the "god hands".
The sprites can be a little stiff with movement, but the frames are so full of personality it doesn't matter

Are the grey squirrels a stand in for American imperialism up to and including actually saying manifest destiny? Yes.
Are the other rodent kingdoms a critique of monarchy? I guess.
Does it have a non hetero-romantic character? Like three, but it's not their personality. Grow up.
