Reading these reviews, I definitely don't want to talk to any of you. Thank god.

Great fun by yourself, one friend or two. Roguelike elements are enjoyable but don't drastically effect your run as much as they would in games where it's the "primary" genre. Generally, the better you play and the smarter the decisions you make, the better your run will be.

Occasionally I'm reminded I bought the premium edition of this game thinking "it couldn't possibly be bad". Woops.

Once again, as with the base game, every storyline is too linear, every character is too one-dimensional, every decision is too clear-cut.

Bethesda is leaving me with little hope for TES 6.

Criminally overlooked - incredibly satisfying, great soundtrack, witty dialogue... everyone should play this.

There are no good characters or compelling storylines in this game.

Gameplay-less "game". Go here, go there, little to no interactivity, no puzzle solving, no secrets, no meaningful choices. Boring and incredibly short story with very obvious story beats that you'll see from a mile away.

Waste of time, but at least it was only 3 hours wasted.

Pros:
  • Follower quests are a decent addition.
  • Lunagaron, Garangolm and Malzeno are fun, entirely new fights.

Neutral:
  • The new switch skills are ok, they range from useless to basically mandatory. This means your weapon will probably either be almost exactly the same as it was before or forced into a new specific playstyle.
  • Anomaly fights are a crapshoot between fun or horribly frustrating depending on the monster you're fighting. Some monsters just weren't built for it.

Cons:
  • A lot of padding with base-game monsters in the first 10 or so hours of gameplay. You will only fight 2 or 3 DLC monsters in this time. These monsters have one or two new moves and hit a bit harder. That's it.
  • The "new" monsters (variants) are, frankly, rubbish - fire-mode reskins of base game monsters seems to be the trend, with one being a fire-mode reskin of a monster that was already a fire monster.
  • The MR grind when you uncap is very long. 50 to 70 has taken a couple days and I've given up. Scorned Magnamalo might be good but I won't be unlocking him until I, hopefully, come back to Sunbreak in the future when all the content is released.
  • New gear feels very awkward to build around, many clearly inferior pieces or pieces with skills that have little impact or contradict other skills on the piece. The builds I end up with always end up with the same few pieces which is very disappointing. Also many of the new skills are kind of just not very good.
  • As with the base game, the PC version is minimal effort when it comes to graphical fidelity. Poly count and texture quality is still very low. Performance is lacking considering how low the quality is as well. At least DLSS makes an appearance, even if it does nothing for performance in my case.

I got about 60 hours out of Sunbreak which is pretty good going but I'm honestly disappointed - how much of that time did I actually even enjoy? Only 5 or so good fights out of 17 "new" monsters, most of which are returning monsters at best and low-quality variants at worst. To put it in perspective I got 650 hours out of Iceborne, and that's ignoring my full playthrough to MR200 on PS4 first. The lack of variety alongside the inherent flaws of this game being a Switch port unfortunately make Sunbreak disappointing when compared to Iceborne.

Made for the time trial enthusiast. Going fast is fun and challenging.

Very fun and a nice change of pace to the base game. Can be a little bit spooky but it's not even close to an out-and-out horror game, despite what you might read here.

Fits nicely into the story but ends a little abruptly. Worth buying.
