Early Access Review
Very good game, aesthetic af. Just wish the building mechanics gave more options for round and odd shapes.

Easily the buggiest game I've played in a while. This is what's wrong with Early Access games — they're buggy and unpolished messes and when the developers get tired of working on it they just slap a "Full Release" label on it without actually making it into a working game. I had to turn on developer mode just to get to the last boss without the game killing itself.
I hope the sequel is better.

Now, in addition to poor servers and unusable UI, there is now a consistent issue with the game crashing to desktop when loading into a match. The game code seems to be overwhelming my Ryzen 5 9600X, so perhaps it is not ready for modern hardware. No amount of driver or bios updates seems to make a difference.

Old review: Servers are still atrocious but now the UI is also atrocious. Actually impressive how they made it so much worse in pretty much every single aspect. Easily the worst, most unintuitive UI of any modern game.

Older review: Servers are atrocious, and will get you killed. Until they at least fix the packet loss issues then the game will just continue to cheat you.

This, along with the other two Additional Content DLC, add a ton of content.
Only drawback is you'll probably end up running into a monster way, way strong than you. You'll either die miserably, or somehow manage to survive, earning a 7 million EXP payoff at the cost of almost all of your healing and revival items. Good luck!

Second best girl in the game, right behind Tekken-chan.
Seriously, do yourself a favor. Plutia is worth the money.

Arguably unnecessary, and definitely overpowered. Makes farming for items much easier, though.

Quick disclaimer: The first thing I did when I started this game was set the voice acting to Japanese. Thus, I cannot make any comment on the English audio.

Simply put, this is a game I bought on a whim during the recent summer sale, and I can say this easily went far above my expectations. I only knew about the series because of Choujigen Game Neptune The Animation, which I didn't even finish. However, after playing this my next move is to restart and finish that anime.
I will do my best to list the major pros and cons below.

Pros:
  • Option to switch between English and Japanese audio at any moment.
  • Excellent (Japanese) voice acting.
  • Excellent soundtrack.
  • Large, diverse cast of characters with a ride range of personalities (a little bit of moe for everyone!).
  • Seriously, some ridiculously cute characters (Peashy best imouto).
  • Wide variety of enemies and monsters to fight. Some are outright hilarious (looking at you, Eggplant Rider).
  • Tons of items to find, unlock, and/or buy to customize and/or upgrade your character (everything from bear suits to swimsuits!).
  • In-game "Plan" system allows you to alter game mechanics, allowing you to adjust various aspects of gameplay (and thus difficulty, in many cases).
  • Plans also allow for the unlocking of new items (including outfits and weapons), as well as new dungeons, monsters, and drops.
  • DLC adds a lot of content, very effectively increasing the lifespan of the game.
  • New Game Plus allows you to start all over again, to give you a chance to unlock everything.
  • Optional True Ending, depending on distribution of Shares.
  • Complex combat system, allowing for multiple play styles.
  • Buffs and debuffs actually make a significant impact on the flow of battle.
  • Story progresses similarly to a visual novel (VN), so there's no rush if something comes up in real life.
  • Option to fast forward dialogue, to make blasting through the story easier if you're on your second play through.
  • 50 different save slots (most all bugs listed below can be mitigated by saving often in multiple slots).
  • Steam achievements! Woo!
  • Genuinely great humor. The fanbase is also pretty great.

Cons:
  • Dungeon controls and camera can take a while to get used to. This is a port, so the controls aren't as intuitive as one might hope. Review the key bindings and take some time to get used to the controls. It will be off-putting at first, but once you figure it out it's actually not bad at all.
  • Dungeons are linear. However, with Plans you can change the monsters and items in them, so they're not quite as boring as one might expect.
  • There is no way to tell how strong an enemy is without fighting it. Unless you've been grinding hard, go into every battle expecting a challenge.
  • You may have to manually activate some of the DLC via Steam. When you start the game, before loading or starting a new game, make sure that all the DLC you bought is actually activated.
  • The game is a little buggy. I will explain in the next few points.
  • The game may freeze upon startup, during loading. If this is a recurring problem, setting Windows to run the game in Compatability Mode for Windows XP will solve the issue.
  • For one reason or another, you will probably lose some game progress at some point. Save often, in multiple file locations.
  • In my 90+ hours of playing, I've had the enemy simply stop acting on two separate occasions. As the combat is turn-based, this effectively freezes the game, and will require you to exit the program.
  • Your game may fail to save if Windows is currently being backed up while you are playing. If this happens, your game may freeze, and that save file may automatically be deleted. This has happened to me once.
  • For whatever reason, you may find yourself unable to switch characters during battle. I don't know what caused it, but this only happened to me once. Restarting the game fixed the issue.
  • When multiple characters talk at the same time during "story time," the audio gets quieter.
  • Some English text gets cut off in the dialogue box. It's never enough to be a real problem, though.
  • Japanese and English dialogue do not always match up 100%. This will be especially noticeable for names, but this is largely a cultural thing.
  • If you're like me and are a little overly neurotic about unlocking everything, you may find yourself over-leveled for some bosses (especially with the DLC that increases the level limit from 99 to 999).
  • Playing for multiple hours a day multiple days in a row may cause injury to your wrists and buttocks. I had to spend $40 on wrist-braces to support my habits...

Overall, I very highly recommend this game, especially to those with at least some interest in Japanese, otaku, and/or video gaming culture. I also very strongly recommend the DLC, at least for your second play through. Depending on your playstyle, this game can probably be cleared in less than a day. Or, if you're like me, in about 90 hours. The game gives you an incredible amount of freedom. Do not hesitate to purchase if the game goes on sale again.

TL;DR: 9/10 would nep-nep again

Oh, and most importantly: Tekken-chan best girl.
