If I could sum this game up in one word it would be "premature".

First off, as the header suggests, this game was not finished at launch and is still not finished as of the NEXT update which was supposed to be this game's saving light. Unfortunatly the community of this high potential game have been dissapointed time and time again by Hello Games, the developers. The base game was as many people know promised to have full multiplayer support with near infinite possibilities of worlds to discover and colonise. All of that fell apart at the launch of the game where some of these features were withdrawn from the game and some where just never implemented which left too many members of the community stranded with a game they could not refund due to the exceedingly long introduction when the game first came out and was not what they were expecting from the features advertised prior to the game's release.

Now, the NEXT update, again another premature release from Hello Games which was a definate improvement over any of the other updates released just from the sheer amount of content and changed added to the game. However the update also left alot to be desired, this could be the lack of optimisations made for lower end clients and even high end PCs and can also be the amount of bugs and issues not accounted for when transittioning from single to multiplayer. Like issues when your friend dissconnects inside of your freighter and you move it, they rejoin and just die because they haven't moved with the ship. I think I speak for alot of people when I say that this update was supposed to deliver alot more of a streamlined experience in playing the game with friends without all the unneccisary bugs that came with it. Hello Games were clearly not ready to release this update and many other minor releases when they did as the present issues could have been avoided quite easily if they had just done more bug testing for issues that link the singleplayer and multiplayer side of No Man's Sky. On the other hand the content that was released in this update works great and still looks as beautiful as ever dispite the still ever-repeating planet features and looks. (This was also supposed to be improved on in the NEXT update.)

As of right now, I cannot recommend this game just beacuse of the amount of issues multiplayer has in it, however if you want a single player experience for whatever reason then I do recomend this game because the majority of the singleplayer bug, issues and features have accutally been improved with the exception of optimisation.

Finally I feel really bad for you if like me you preordered the game for like £45.00 and still haven't had a product worth £20.00.

Full list of issues I have found within the first day since NEXT release alone:
list]
  • Friends die when a freighter is moved when they are dissconnected inside of it.
  • Random crashes, which I don't think are a huge issues normally, cause not only setbacks but can sometimes cause players to randomly lose entire inventories for no reason.
  • Stuctures placed can sometimes not update for all players at the same time, for example one player places a doorframe, it doesn't update for the other player and you can walk through but they can't.
