So I've just beaten the last boss of Neon Abyss and... Yeah okay this game is an Early Access that just isn't called Early Access. There is no conclusion to the story, no "true final boss" (both bosses are branch possibilities). I still have barely unlocked anything but three characters because unlike other games where you start with multiple characters (EtG) or unlock them through achievements (TBoI), NA is just... yeah, grind more. *You just grind to get money, and then spend said money on upgrades.
The "synergies" are honestly rare, more often than not you just want + damage and + bullets. Some of the guns are flat out overpowered, I just had a run where I took no damage. Not because I'm good, but because I had a gun that protected me with Guardian Sprites all the friggin time.
The levels just... mesh together. To compare it to the other two games I've cited above, when you're in a level in The Binding of Isaac or Enter the Gungeon, it looks like THAT level, and not any other. In Neon Abyss, the four first look a lot alike, and even afterwards... There's not much difference. I'll blame the enemy design for that as well, as it feels like you face the same enemies over and over again.
The low amount of bosses you can face, and the fact that half of them are just harder versions of the first level bosses doesn't help in that feeling of progressing through the levels. The Managers are nice, though, even if it kinda feels like the hardest ones were put first (the final boss before the optional ones feels easier than the one before him).
Flight breaks this game, as usual. Most bosses can be cheesed by flying over them, so if you can fly... yeap, you just won. Except the devs must have realized that because you can't fly when you face one of the optional bosses at the end of your run (haven't confirmed with the other boss yet).
All in all, if you like Rogue-Lites... Yeah, pass Neon Abyss for now. It's not ready yet and it FEELS like it
That being said, in a year, maybe, when the game has a lot of patches to add an actual ending to the story, more bosses, more enemies to feel like we're actually progressing through harder levels, I think it'll be a good game.
For now it's just... eh. If you need your fix of Rogue Lites, maybe.

Early Access Review
How to describe Faeria ? It might seem like a card-games like any other one - because it's obviously a card-game -, but once you're starting spending a little bit of time into it, you'll realize how deep the gameplay can be.

Just to explain a little bit : every turn, you gain three Faerias (the equivalent of mana in this game), and draw a card. You have the choice to either draw another card, gain an additionnal Faeria, or put fields down the board. There are 4 Faeria wells, that each give a Faeria if one of your creatures manage to reach them, and replenish every turn.

And then, strategy strikes. Controlling the board is a necessity, but so is controlling the Faeria wells. You may want to turtle near your orb, or rush the enemy to prevent them from getting any. There are plenty of different strategies available, plenty of different decks, of different combos that you can pull off. And that's what makes the game amazing.

Be warned though, that the game will be in Free to play once it'll get released, in September; but that the early access will let you start with additionnal packs, and an orb and an avatar exclusive to the Early Access players.

Do I recommend this game ? Yes, one thousand times. It's far more strategic than most card-games I have been playing lately.

(And by the way, if you're an ex-scrolldier : come with us, they are plenty like you here !)
