if you're in the market to scratch that Payday 2 itch without having to put up with Payday 3's shortcomings, this is essentially more of the same.

The singleplayer roguelike mode is a ton of fun, the multiplayer side content isn't too shabby either. My only real complaint would be that it majorly lacks a lot of the mechanical depth of its inspiration. There isn't any skill trees, weapon modding or anything of the like nor perk decks. You pick 1-3 perks, you have pre-determined gun builds and that's kind of it.

In roguelike mode it isn't much of an issue, since the resource management and RNG factor helps add a lot of weight to what you do with your money, kit and squad, knowing you have to be smart about your choices and can play dangerously for higher rewards, risking throwing all your work down the drain. But when it pays off, it feels great. They really managed to get a good balance of satisfaction and a feeling of growing power I don't think a lot of games in this style really seem to get.

So, this should be a standing ovation to just pick up the game right, despite the watered down customisation? Well, yes and no. That really depends what you want out of this game. I think if the singleplayer all or nothing, ride or die city takeover thing appeals to you, you'd love this game. This also at the same time is its achilles heel, that the best part of the game is singleplayer only... so if you're hoping to experience that with your friends, all you get is a totally neutered version of its core gameplay which has you do a bunch of scripted missions with no roguelike mechanics, infact the SP and MP content are completely isolated from eachother with seperate rules, inventory, characters and everything. They don't mutually benefit eachother outside the occasional MP money drop in the SP content, so you can spend in a mode not even relevant to what you're playing. Sounds nice on paper being able to benefit both regardless of what you do, and that your time is being rewarded and I can see what they were trying to achieve in doing so.

My issue really is just knowing it doesn't feel like anything I do in one truly matters to the other, it's a disconnect to save me some time and not much else. So what you're left with ultimately is the choice between a really competent and fun singleplayer mode with a cheesy 80's movie plot that while incoherent, is pretty fun for how silly it all is, and the other half is a multiplayer mode kind of just limping along trying to emulate what made PD2 work without bringing much of anything new to the table. Trying to appeal to both crowds is a fools' errand, they have something great here and they should've stuck to their guns in making the roguelike mode coop or something, it kills what would otherwise be an actually great squad shooter knowing the most fun I can have with it is only available if I play without my friends.

The only thing stopping this game from being a divine blessing beyond human comprehension is that there's no lily pads in any of the front yard or roof levels so I'm forced to devise a strategy other than just spamming Cattails for 15 years straight on multiple ports.

Sonic is back ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and he's actually good again. Who knew handing Sonic to fans who actually care about him instead of a cynical corporation was a great idea?

For a Mario Kart clone you could do a lot worse. I like it but I don't love it but in the lack of many better PC alternatives it'll have to do.

Just because the port is unusually good for a Sonic PC game doesn't mean this isn't an absolutely worthless contribution to the gaming industry.

They'll hate me for speaking the truth but the US OST fits the tone and narrative better.
It's not what you wanna hear, but it's true.
Oh yeah and the "CD is overrated" crowd is dumb. How can it be overrated when it's the least liked game of the Genesis era? If anything, it's not liked enough. It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ masterpiece.
