- It would take 52 rounds to unlock every functional weapon and character, in the beta, this is too long, front-load more of the gear before you add more content
- Ship fights are kinda slow at the moment, the vehicles dont maneuver much and ship weapons arent hard to aim, i'm sure as you add new tools they'll become more interesting and creative, just figured i'd mention it
- Please rework 'the doctor' weapon, its identity does not fit this games current balance, it needs to provide more than healing to be useful in more situations, since TTK is instant, in a lot of cases literally. It should give over-health or a damage buff or anything aside from just healing

Good game except:

1. Crashes
2. Poor optimization

Theres other issues with gameplay but these few issues are enough to warrent 'mixed' on steam reviews

Edit: After putting way way more time into the game, I can now confidently say my main genuine criticism is the game never gets difficult which is a shame, especially considering I'm brand new to the series and would've preferred a more polarizing experience. It felt like a game with monster-shaped loot pinatas even once I reached the endgame 'high rank they're really actually going to be kick your butt now we promise' monsters

Edit Edit: The performance is actually -worse- after the new update, dipping down to 25 fps and 9 fps at some point in the scarlet forest, this is astounding

Edit Edit Edit: New hunts are challenging n fun for me, died a few times, the performance is still complete garbo

good game, but I have to point out the one pet peeve I had with the game

My negative criticism:

One of the major biomes is basically 'the ocean', there's very few mobs or things to do in the ocean, just some tentacles that throw baseballs at you, and very little else. I literally laughed at my screen when it started to shake like something new was going to happen and three tentacle mobs that ive seen throughout the entire ocean just popped out of the water like it was some spectacle. there's a secret boss fight later, and its admittedly one of the more fun fights, but thats. it. theres nothing else exciting about the actual ocean itself, which feels weird given it takes up 90% of one of the major biomes. I wish there was whirlpools to get stuck in, maybe waterspouts to dodge, etc. More hazards or enemies in general.

I also want to have a very nit-picky rant about about the progression stepping stone that allows ocean exploration. Boats. The boats themselves control ok. If i had to compare it to walking on land, its like that, but slightly slippery, like a very slight amount of momentum is preserved when you stop. They're bare-bones and in its current state, i honestly wish they didn't even bother with rideable boats at all and just gave us an equippable 'flipper' item to hop into and swim through the water instead. Taking damage doesn't damage your boat while you're in the water, it hurts you directly, so i don't see the point of, making a boat, holding it in your inventory 24/7, plopping it down, and going zoop until you have to, sit next to land, hop onto an island, break the boat, etc. There's no ocean currents or waves, no ocean wind, nothing. It's just missing all the feelings that 'sailing the high seas' would give you, with the only notable game-feel contribution being a very quiet motor-whirring sound effect. If they added more mechanics to the boats themselves, that would justify their existence for me, like having to repair your boat when taking damage, fuel or speed boosts, stopping steering to attack, etc.

All-in-all, i hope there's an update that focuses on the ocean soon, because it seems like the biome that has the most room for growth at the moment.

All these reviews make me feel like FatShark made the mistake of releasing a casual-competitive gamemode in a competitive era. The pvp is really fun if you dont pretend you're going to be a top 1% gamer in the owl leagues or something. Balance changes will make the experience smoother, but almost as if its fatsharks MO, a rocky release, while the core gameplay is good. Try and enjoy that gameplay n try to be silly about it.

that being said, the balance is bad, and I hope is tweaked over time

Deserves a final touch up, as some weapons can be unfun to play against, and some classes have less depth than others, but this game is still fantastic, will always stand the test of time, years after 2017.

Bosses in the dlc are significantly more fun and fair to fight than in the base game, but not necessarily easier. my main nitpick with the base game was that i didn't enjoy (a lot) of the bosses as much as i wish i could've because of a few unbalanced attacks. (getting one shot by an attack where i needed to read a fextralife 4 paragraph essay about how to avoid ((waterfowl dance)), is not my idea of a fun boss mechanic, but i'll be damned if i'm not going to get 100% of the games achievements)

My only major nitpick in this, is scad-oo fragments are a boring progression system (they just give more damage/defense) compared to what they replace in the base game (leveling skills) to the point where i wish they didnt bother. theres other things to nitpick, but its not as deep. I'll take fun boss fights over fun character progression any day of the week.

edit: i would also like to elaborate that one-shotting a boss is equally not fun, which didn't happen for me in the dlc at all, but happened a few times in the base game, because you only do double damage by endgame in the dlc, where in the base game, you can do upwards of 2k damage per hit compared to like, a longsword doing 100-125 damage (1900% increase compared to 100%). IMO, if you are the kind of person that enjoys minmaxing, the dlc wont make you feel like you're breaking the game in an unfortunate way unless you're doing some insane fromsoft cheese. so the scadooo00 fragments do deliver in balance, but not excitement, it balances out imo.
