Total War is a wonderful game from the series of total war. It displays the reason why the dark ages were called that. The brutality of war was a very nascent thing, and many great cities were laid waste in the fourth and fifth centuries anno domini in real life. With this game you can either be the nomadic hordes that destroy classical civilization as we know it, and replace it with their own cool stuff, or you can be the Romans, even the Persians, and lots of other cool peoples that existed in that time too. The flavorful events are always an entertaining, immersive and relevant facet to campaigns. As with other total war mods, the steam community has lots of neat modifications for adding detail to this game, as well as mods that enable you to choose other beliefs for your civilization, which allows for unique achievements as well as being really fun to try out and get to apply those benefits to the gameplay. Overall amazing game!

Great detail and historical accuracy. If you want a game you can put hours into a battle simulator for iron age civilizations, here it is. Sometimes the enemy unit behavior is frustrating in battles, especially when you want to take something but some slingers keep harassing your units to death at a distance and can always outrun you because they're lighter weight. The main campaign is pretty fun from the sense of administration, diplomacy, and making cool kingdoms to wreck other nations with. Just as with many other games, the modding community provides lots of cool fun add-ons that are very useful for tweaking the game either for or against your favor, as well as a bunch that just change the outfits, weapons and skins of the units.

Its still a fresh, new game, so there's likely to be many updates coming in the future. Its essentially a splice of Europa Universalis 4 and Crusader Kings 2, but based in the times of the Diadochi (the successors to Alexander the Great). Many historically significant figures abound to play as and lead their nation to greatness. The most recent updates have added diversity to ships, events, buildings and flavor. I sincerely hope that in time this game adds more starting dates, as well as more depth to the character's relationships with other people as they did in Crusader Kings 2. Perhaps I'll just have to wait for Crusader Kings 3 to come out for that, but in the mean time if you want phalanxes, war elephants, chariots, resources, alliances and comically large warships (as well as sleek, nimble and fast small ones), then look no further, because this game has all that and so much more. Anyone who likes the iron age needs this game.

Back in the 2000's I bought several CDs of this game because of scratching the disks by leaving them out of the case before I eventually realized Steam existed and got an account and this game. Another one of those games that despite other newer ones coming out, I still end up playing this all the time. The sandbox editor of this game is literally a whole game on it's own. It's phenomenal how huge the maps can be made, and how many units and buildings and cultures are available (mods make it even more-so). The fantasy/spiritual/magical elements are bigger in the standard single and multiplayer parts of the game (but still extant in the editor of course), but with just the editor you can create your own worlds and do whatever you want with them (as a kind or evil creator/creatix) as they develop through time and interact with other societies, normally through war, but also trade, alliances and other positive enriching behaviors. If you like ancient mythologies/polytheism/paganism this game gives some nice description and detail to that, which is also a major bonus of the game too from an informative perspective. 10/10, would highly recommend

Back in the good old days of windows 98 I used to play a lot of Fallout 1, the original. Fallout 4 is like a dream come true for all the people who played Fallouts 1,2,3 and New Vegas but were left with a feeling that something big and beautiful was missing. Well, look no further because it is Fallout 4. The game engine, designed by Bethesda, is basically the same exact thing as Skyrim, but instead of being in another world with magic and non-humanoid beings, you are in America in the theoretical post-nuclear-war time period. The detail the designers put into the dynamic speech dialogues is exceptional in such a game, far beyond those used in the Elder Scrolls Series. The voicing of the protagonist I believe is a great new advance as it adds more immersion into the game, as people respond not only to you and what you say, how you say it, and what other people think about what you say and do. Quests are quite abundant, but they never leave you feeling like its the same boring bland thing again, it's always a different adventure with new, unforeseen outcomes. The leveling system and traits is fun as well, as it allows the player to utilize new and different skills to better achieve the objectives required through changing what you do and how you go about doing it. Overall it is something that any post-apocalyptic fan must have. Also if you enjoy weapons this game does detail them pretty accurately and is worth the DLC just for the guns in my honest opinion, as it includes a diverse and customize-able plethora of weapons of the past, present and future.

This game is unique and immensely deep in medieval flavor. If you love medieval role playing, or anything about the cultures or histories of most of the "Old" world of Europe, Asia and Africa, then you need to play Crusader Kings 2. The Downloadable Content packs are really necessary to get the full feel of the vibrant and dynamic state the world was in even back then, and how life was so brutal and fragile back before there was modern medicine. The modding community adds even more stories and events, which there already is a lot of to begin with, literally thousands of hours (and many centuries in the game). The detail that the game goes into to make the starting points and characters accurate to their true natures is impeccable, astonishing even. Of course as you play your game the world changes and diverges from reality, but that's what makes the game so great. You can make your experience strict to what would have happened back then, or you can add in magic/fantasy/alternatehistory/anachronism to whatever degree you desire. Its like an immense sandbox where you can be king (or Queen, Emperor, Empress) of whatever culture or belief you can think of. Get ready for its super new sequel: Crusader Kings 3. It's coming out 1st quarter 2020, updating the game's mechanics and visual displays of characters, quests, graphics user interface and so much more!!! If you ever have the chance to try CK2 for free do not ever miss that opportunity. I can't imagine a universe where I did not ever play this game. Its hands-down amazing and dare I say one of the best games ever.

This was the worst waste of $30.00 I could ever have spent. I already have medieval 2 total war, but I spent the extra money to get the steam version. The audio drivers immediately crashed, and there is no more sound in the game no matter how many times I try to reinstall because the steam version itself is corrupted. Its missing several patches, there are bugs in the program coding, and steam doesn't have a workshop for this game. THATS THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT THIS. NO WORKSHOP...WHY STEAM?!??!? I love this game, but now I can't play it anymore because Steam is too lazy to update their game collection, and to allow their games to be playable. THANKS FOR RUINING A PERFECTLY GREAT GAME!
