I wonder why I keep coming back to this game... it has solid gameplay, nice music, superb pixel art, tons of replayability... it has to be that, right?

Larian Studios at it's finest, with a battle system and world building that later will be the bones and blood of Baldur's Gate 3. A must play.

This game was a hell of a ride, it has the soul of a classic jrpg of the past while adding some interesting concepts like formations and an unique way to level up and unlock skills.

The game draws inspiration from two main sources: Bravely Default and the SaGa games.

From the first one, you can see the similarities in the character design, the world map, and even the music, to an extent. And from the latter, the inspiration comes from the way you level up (or rather, you don't), because after each battle, there's a random chance you will gain some HP and/or SP. But also during battle, you can learn new skills by using the ones you already know, which makes the battle system so fun while playing casually, and frustrating while playing for completion.

But after all is said and done, even good games have problems, this one suffers from a couple of unsolved game crashes and freezes in the early game (I only encountered one), some unexpected difficulty spikes and even game walls, that will test your party composition and progression, and understanding of the game mechanics... so be prepared for THAT kind of boss walls.

Such an underrated gem. A neat turn based battle system, where in your turn you have a variety of attacks with different styles (but in time you will learn to use the best stuff only *cough*Stun Granade*cough* ), but when defending... you have a mix of Undertale soul dodge mechanics and Megaman Battle Network grid dodge... which fits so well with the turn based battles.

And also, the music goes HARD during the boss battles, I think every boss has it's own theme, which is pretty cool for an indie title.

The moment you realize that this is no place for a horse, and that you have to go alone... that is when the real fight begins.

It's like Candy Crush, but with poop, bones and teeth instead of candies, and with some deep lore connection to The Binding of Isaac.

Also, it's highly recommended to install the "Windfall" mod (you can look for it on the interwebs), otherwise the game is an unbalanced mess.

A rock solid Ace Attorney-like, it adds enough to the formula while maintaining the charm that makes this kind of games so unique.

The art and the music are both top tier, even adding some sweet jazz into the objection theme, and the story is very well written with a good amount of backstory and character development.

And as a side note, contrary to the store page, the game has controller support.. it may not be perfect, but is serviceably enough to enjoy the game.

Gameplay wise you can't avoid comparing it with the first game, which is a masterpiece, but in short, the game recycles several things that made the first great, it adds some that improves the experience (I just loved the seatruck), while taking away some others.

The story is great, but suddenly having a talking protagonist could be immersion breaking for some people, and the fear factor from the first game is almost non-existent here until maybe the late game, due to the familiarity of biomes from having played the first game.

So as a summary: Is this a good game? Yes. Is this better than the original? No. Is the game worth playing? Hell yes.
