TL;DR--100% recommend if you even semi-like Soulsborne/soulslike games. Especially on sale.

I've played all the FromSoft Soulsborne games and usually spin off of 'soulslike' games, Nioh and Lies of P being the lone exceptions.

LotF takes alot from the Souls genre and sprinkles in its own mechanics to varying degrees of success to make a hell of a package overall, if not falling short of the FromSoft originals themselves.

You have posture meters from Sekiro, wither/grey health bar from Bloodborne, combat and exploration like older Souls games, and then LotF adds a whole new aspect of a shadow realm called 'Umbrel' that is both a delight to experiment with, explore and run around in solving puzzles and finding secrets while also being a nightmare for completionists/ADHD gamers lol, you're always worried you are missing something being on the 'other side'. It also makes the game and exploration **extremely** dense, essentially doubled everything with both worlds

Umbrel and the lamp really set this apart from other games in the genre and its really a lot of fun seeing the same world change so dramatically while also finding different enemies and shortcuts/secrets as well. Its really trippy using the lamp to walk across a phantom bridge that isn't there in the 'normal' world or going under water in a big lake that isn't there in the Umbrel world. It does lose its novelty a bit as the game goes on, but its still very entertaining seeing the differences and how different paths open up.

Combat is a middle ground between something like Bloodborne/Sekiro and the Original slower paced Dark Souls.

Personally, LotF is at the top of the Soulslike genre with the likes of Lies of P as the best of them. While not as polished and personally not as good looking as Lies of P, I very much prefer the more variety of equipment, builds and styles LotF offers that are more Soulsborne in scope as well as the dark fantasy setting versus Lies of P. Lies of P definitely feels more polished while looking better, but if you are wanting a more 'traditional' Dark Souls vibe and setting this beats out Lies of P by a bit.

Overall, in 1.6 build in the latest patch, LotF offers a LOT for Souls fans in a game that has gotten a ton of support over the last year.

While never reaching the heights of FromSoft titles, it goes toe to toe with the best Soulslike games and, depending on preference of settings/styles and build varieties may beat out the 'best' of them in Lies of P.

No brainer, especially on sale, if you are wanting a Souls challenge in the more traditional dark fantasy setting that is more linear like the older titles than something like Elden Ring.
