After looking back on this game, I've decided that the "joke" review does not work for how I feel about this game.

Put shortly: This game is a masterpiece. A game that was made to celebrate a ten year anniversary. A game for the fans. And yet, it works so well as an entry point for someone with no prior attachment to the series.

As a prequel for fans who've played the games released before it, it gives way for them to learn about the big backstories behind Kiryu and Majima: The series protagonist up until Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and easily the most fan favourite character in the entire series. Ever.

As a prequel for those who've never played any of the games, like I was when I first played this, it works perfectly. References to other games and their plot points are always fitted into their contexts, but I never felt like I was missing anything. Objectively, I did miss things and they went over my head a majority of the time. But that didn't ever take away from it, and when I revisit this game and all of its references to previous entries, it only adds to it now that I know it.

I'm going to keep it short, although I could go on for a lot, lot longer.

Point is: Buy this game. Play it. It *is* peak fiction.
