"Oooh look at this cute little knight game, that'll keep me entertained for 10/20 hours tops hihi"

YOU ARE MISTAKEN HUMAN. THIS TITLE HOLDS HUNDREDS OF SECRETS, UNLOCKABLES, COMEDIC DIALOGS & HOURS OF CONTENT.
THE LAST TIME I'VE BEEN THIS ENTHRALLED ABOUT A GAME WAS INSCRYPTION.
(totally different genre and esthetic but still, both insanely good games)

The Goods
- A progression system that's creative, rewarding and that fits the lore ? YOU GOT IT
- Diverse biomes, filled with creative ennemies, secrets and memorable bosses ? YOU BET
- Mysterious story, following the Estuaries and the fall of the kingdom. Not much of a story guy, but this one got me good. So great story that only adds mystique to this complex, ever-shifting world ? CH-CHECK
- AN ASSERTIVE, LOUD WOODEN MANNEQUIN TO REMIND YOU OF YOUR WORTH BEFORE EACH RUN ? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT
- Mechanics that feel fluid, and very diverse when you start combining them together ? ASBOLUTELY (Hollow Knight fans should have a field day with this one)
- Class variety out the wazoo to keep each run fresh, to find THE heir that fits your playstyle the most ? Why would I mention it if wasn't to confirm that YES, IT'S THERE AND IT'S REALLY WELL THOUGHT OUT + DESIGNED
- Oh and New Game + isn't just a "same ♥♥♥♥, harder day". You actually get to discover more ennemies, bosses, secrets and lore up to the true ending...

Boo List
- Character stats are confusing when starting (Dexterity, Skill Crits, Armor System/Weight System...)
- I found the Scar system... Complicated at first, same for the buoy boy, but that could be just me
- Music was kinda lacking.. Until it wasn't (I'd say halfway through the campaign).

Beat the first boss of the game to get a slight taste of the sheer scale of this lil knight game.
Then keep slashing, eating and spin-kicking (SPIN-KICK EVERY SINGLE THING HUMAN, OR GET SPIN-KICKED BACK TO SPAWN) to discover just how detailed the world is, how well written most characters are and how much of your free time you can sink into these wretched halls.

That about marks the end of my review. Feel free to keep reading other comments down below or buy this gem straight away.

Interesting concept, still lacks a lot of clarity in both :
- How the game works (progression, objectives, overall flow of a run..)
- How you're supposed to play it (Are you against the clock ? Do you need/should horde stuff ? Is it a mix of both ?)

THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY

THE GOOD :
Haven't played an FPS with such a refreshing mechanic as the card one. Not only does it switch up how you play the game drastically, it forces you to relearn mid-match how you go about playing tactical FPS. Cards also synergize really well together, creating chaos inducing combos that you most of the time do not expect !
The gunplay feels great, the guns SFX feel tight, the maps are cleverly designed with each having their own little twist to add to the insanity that unfolds every round.
I also enjoy the artistic direction chosen for the Fragpunk universe. It's stylish, slick and a perfect way to capture the rule-breaking element that those cards bring in. The devs and art team's passion really shines through on those aspects.
Finally, the game is a blast with a couple of friends. Discussing card selection, making up strats as the round progresses and sh1tp0st1ng while your last bud is trying to clutch brings back those CS days with some extra OOMF and surprises !

THE BAD :
The sound effects in game (notably the footsteps of both your allies and enemies) are hard to make out. Picture yourself defending the bomb you've planted and hearing steps behind you, I mean in front of you, no no behind you. Wait can they come from above ? Oh it's definitely above, no no nvm it's behind you, before getting one tapped from your left is a tough pill to swallow. Hopefully devs adress this soon. The time it takes to grind a character to unlock is quite demanding as well (think Valorant experience) but dw I gotchu, if you do end up downloading the game, check the end of this review

THE UGLY :
Awful in-game reward system and micro-transactions. From the multiple currencies, to all the tabs with "NEW" icons slapped on.. that only dive into MORE TABS with MORE "NEW" ICONS. It's a UI nightmare.
Open a booster pack (your go-to gatcha-esque system, because why make a game without those these days) and you'll find yourself in Jimmy McGill's shoes at the start of Better Call Saul, only finding "FREAKIN' STICKERS, NEED MORE STICKERS". There is an unapologetic, marketing strategy used for this game, which could almost be qualified as predatory. Not only is there a battlepass (which makes sense for a FTP), there's a PREMIUM subscription. Bro how GREEDY CAN YOU GET. Your skins already cost 25 shells a piece, you're constantly trying to get me to download your sponsored shady software, I'm reminded to buy the battle pass everytime I launch the game, and you want me to spit out an extra 10 bucks for premium privileges ? On a
MONTHLY BASIS ? Compared to The Finals (which is a great reference when it comes to monetization for FTP games) Fragpunk is an absolute scam. You can still obviously enjoy the game without purchasing a single item, and just grind your eyes out for new characters and skins. But by god does this game make it hard for you to weave through all that noise and pollution just to get inside a match.

All in all, it's still a good deal. The gameplay loop is a fun as it is addictive. There is no pay to win feature, only cosmetics. Game is highly replayable thanks to it's maps and cards. And it really isn't balanced, which I'm convinced works in the favor of the game. (devs pls dont start listening to sweaty top 500 players like Overwatch did)

Free to play game without ANY free to play issue (pay to win, games with bots, rampant cheating in every lobby...)

Past that, you realize the devs are two steps ahead of what's being done in the industry.

The destruction is unparalleled for arena shooters that ressemble The Finals, which in turn puts improvisation at the top of the "must have skills" list. WHICH IN TURN allows replayability to soar through the roof.

If you're reading this and still hesitate : download the game, try each class without focusing on the objective but just getting a feel for the game. Eventually, you're bound to find the weapon, gadgets and style that keeps you coming back for more of this adrenaline filled, split-second decision hell of a game.

There's just nothing like it!

Stabbed, crushed, bludgeoned to death dozens of times. But I draw the line at Lint Licker.
This game is awesome. Picture Tarkov gameplay loop in a medieval setting. Make sure to give it a solid hour before deciding if it's for you or not, it's not very beginner friendly.

But past that, even without upgrading to the "full version", there's just so much to learn and try out.

Oh and as a Timmy to Timmy friendly advice, your potions glow in the dark. Yep, keep that in mind

Watched the first 20 seconds of a youtube review about this game.

The less you know about this title, the better your experience. Just know, you'll drive a lot.

I'm only 6 hours in and so far Ironwood Studios have managed to blow my expectations way out of the water. Not really a car-game guy, not a story-heavy game fan either. Yet the "unique qualities and smart game design" list just keeps getting longer.

I'll update this review in a hundred miles or so. Maybe when I run through the campaign a second time.

Or maybe not at all, as the man was right.

The less you know about this game, the better.

"LOOK AT HIM, IT'S THE EBER"

First and only ARPG I've ever played. Was looking for a top down view, hack and slash kinda game with loads of loot.

Not only did the devs fulfill these requirements, they went above and beyond.

  • Gameplay customization is nuts, every skill that you can equip has it's own skill tree (so over 120 different active skill trees)
  • And you've got passives as well, with a mastery system !
  • Skills aren't your thing, you're more of a loot kinda guy huh ? Yeah there's plenty ("plenty" doesn't do it justice) of stuff to drop, seek, hate, do math over and eventually put together for a cracked build.
  • The forging system is great, if you like RNG elements. In this scenario, I feel like it works great, the two aspects of choosing your loot, what to upgrade, and what you're ready to spend vs the Rnjesus himself
  • Campaign is charming. The lore didn't catch my attention within 20h of gameplay but the environment, enemies, music, dialogs... It's all there, and done in a passionate way.
  • The multiplayer aspect was a selling point for me. Oh and the low price tag, given how much content this title holds.

If you've always wanted to try the genre, without really knowing where to start, I'd say this is a perfect middle ground between a mind numbing hack & slash experience, and Path of Exile like games where you'll need to spend a solid 20/30h reading pages of text and build guides before getting a hang of the game.

No in game micro-transactions (only comsetics in store), lots of inventory space, unchanging price tag even after the 1.0 release, no expansions/dlcs only free updates...

It's got a bright future ahead \o/

LOOP THE LOOP

Amazing universe, tight gameplay, great soundtrack, top notch voice acting for every character and disappointing ending

Overall a solid 8/10, especially if you've enjoyed the Dishonored franchise

The multiplayer aspect is such a great touch and works hand in hand with the multitude of options the game offers (paths, powers, weapons, trinkets, gadgets...)
However, it relies on P2P connection, so if the player you're invading as Julianna has a corncob for a router, rollbacks will you loop you back to the menu fairly quickly.

Definitely give it a go if you're into "Play your Way" FPS games or enjoyed roaming through Dunwall

But damn that ending's disappointing

Have a fulfilling day !
