Pretty much how I remember. Not as bad (at the time) as people said, but unfortunate product of marketing selling a different product than the one being developed and hype killing realistic expectations. Hasn't aged well but still cool to play a piece of history. FOC, FPS and some other visual options can be enabled and disabled via console commands if that helps your playthrough. It can be fun if you wanna see what gaming was like circa 2011 post-COD modern warfare. 5/10 (closer to 6 than 5.0)

This is the fastest a game has ever gone from non-stop fun to non-stop frustration. I used to love finding fun new ways to play with items and map destruction and now it just feels like the team with the cheesiest BS wins. Rolling the dice to see if your team will be cohesive or if you get stuck with the teammates who don't want anything to do with the objective. Over and over and over and over.... The developers seem so cool and genuine that it's hard to fault them.... But man... It just straight up feels like a different game from the beta. Also hey, crazy idea, less emphasis on depending on teammates who just want to run around solo and more emphasis on solo plays? Crazy thought, but if your playerbase is playing the game one way, then maybe lean into it? Like yeah sure, it'd suck to let guys who load into a team based game and refuse to use teamwork win. But sometimes that's just kind of the hand you're dealt? God... I don't know anymore. I used to love this game so much and watching it become another boring hero shooter that gets etch-a-sketched every other patch for some stupid wishy-washy meta just makes me sad. 3/10

Rusty Lake Hotel is like a painting in a museum. It stays on the museum walls so we can talk about the time it came from, and how important web games were, how untethered stories could be when there was no censorship or limits. It's style and tone explore discomfort and death. Intensely but not deeply. A detailed frame on a painting that gets darker and more twisted the longer you stare. But years have gone now and the painting once provocative and gut wrenching is just kinda niche. The tone and puzzles are still fun, and the diversion is well priced. I just don't know how long this painting is going to hang at the museum of interest and common knowledge before we start to wonder what milestone painting should be hanging there instead. 6/10

Alright, so now we're hitting Yakuza 6 over the head with a frying pan and when it wakes up we're just going to tell him they're their long lost brother, Yakuza 2? Okay, weird but lets go with it. The Dragon Engine works extremely well with this tale of jumping between cities and the dramatic lighting and rendering really gives the story of revenge and a much needed next-generational OOMPH. Plenty to do, plenty more side quests to mess around with. Although we're revisiting Kamurocho for the umpteenth millionth time, it feels fresh and exciting again. Kind of like seeing your ex at a bar but now she has fishnets and neck tattoos. I know how that stories going to end, but whats the hurt in giving it another go? I don't know if this was in development during Yakuza Kiwami but it does feel like it's learned from Kiwami's mistakes. 7/10

Preserves the soul of the original PS2 classic but changes enough that it's non-comparable. Sticks jumper cables to Yakuza 0 so that the older brother can have his time in the sun too. Found it conceptually soulless compared to the original and found it unorganized and tacked on compared to Yakuza 0. Everything else has been said a million times over by a million other reviewers and I'm just going to mirror the summary. It's a great, fun game with a ton of content and a time proven story that's flashy, fun and action packed. I wouldn't recommend it as the first game for someone new, but it's a great way for first-timers to catch up to the veterans after playing 0. Just don't put this game on the same pedestal as those before it. It's copying it's homework from too many textbooks to get an A+. 6/10

If you could turn the concepts of game design and gameplay from Darkest Dungeon into physical objects, you could argue for hours which ones value would tilt the scales more. A quick dungeon exploring RPG that revolves around the currencies of materials and explorers that you can level up. Versus the concept of throwing those explorers so frequently against their wits ends that their complete and total exhaustion turns you into a monster who just shrugs their shoulders and throws them heartlessly and mechanically to the gutter. Both virtues of Darkest Dungeon are outstanding on their own and you could argue for hours which one impacts the other and where the other carries the concept, and which one goes strong where the other dies out. But that's honestly the ultimate review of Darkest Dungeon. One does die out. Either the repetition, RNG and reused assets kill your interest to go back into the dungeon or the one-note tone and lack of a growing story kills your interest to return home. For the student, it's an example of how good designs and cunning psychology don't create an addictive game. And for the casual gamer, it's a distraction burning like a candle wick that dies when the gust of anything flashier enters the room. 7/10

This game came out when concepts spoke louder than words. The idea of being hunted while AI mercilessly follows in your wake, hounds hunting in your footprints wake was a huge selling point even though there was not enough resources in the world to make a game that intricate and advanced. Given the eleven year gap from when I played this first and how it plays now, it's nothing you haven't seen a thousand times by now. Ai shows up in towns when you're nearby, they patrol, you search generic assets for items and eat food to keep going. Would've been very exciting to see this evolve into an IP or another spiritual successor, but what we got what we got and now what we got is outdated and quaint. 5/10. A better price reflecting the age of this game would've brought it to a 6.

When the orange box was announced, it was like hearing lightning in the middle of the night. As it got closer, me and my friends obsessed over which class would fit us and who'd we'd main. When that conversation got dull we'd start talking about who our second main would be. I wrote comics about the adventures we'd have and the games we'd play. Overwhelming victories, last minute reversals, spies sapping a sentry just in time so a medic could ubercharge and finish the fight. The lightning so close it was like a battle drum. Running over to the electronics store a month early just in case some poor worker put the game up for sale early.

Friendships started and ended over TF2. The classes I thought I'd main got old and new obsessions came out. Just when things felt routine BAM! New maps, events and changes. BAM! Items that change how every class plays or even the rhythm of the games played BAM! Cosmetics... (Well... that one took some time to get used to). It felt like electricity every time I thought about playing. The craziest part was that the crackle and life from every strike of electricity was just as powerful as the one I remembered before.

When the lightning died, it was heard from further and further away. The time between strikes counted to months, then years, then a decade. I never knew how to review this game with that feeling so far gone. I mean, do you write a review from the perspective of your first play? Your last? How do you write something that changes you from a perspective where you've already changed and that person is long gone.

All I know is that I'd do anything to hear that lightning again.

10/10 - Even today nothing comes close to the design, fun and content this game brings. Few opinions could ever be universally correct and this is one of them: TF2 is one of the best online shooters ever made.

You can mod this game to play TimeSplitters 2 HD. I have no opinions on Homefront.

Deepsilver was kinda cool while they lasted tho, eh?

Very surprised how well this holds up, especially since stealth has moved far away from this slower-paced classic. Only remaining annoyance were some weird key-binds and forced full screen/resolutions. Conquering a system where you're ham-stringed in every way during combat just feels good when you start tearing through these levels and making the auto-aim AI look foolish. Rare example of how a gameplay loop and mechanics build immersion and the immersion comes right back to improve the gameplay loop. Maybe it's not a case of the industry moving on from slow, methodical stealth and realizing it'll never be this good again.

8/10 - Clunk, cheesy, but still a timeless classic with a lot of fun lessons to teach.
