A very enjoyable (if simple) Dark Souls 'clone' with minimalist graphics. The game doesn't tell one what to do for the most part and the player is left to explore the castle and discover the story of Leopold. While it has some issues (rather clunky and repetitive combat being its greatest flaw), the level and enemy designs are, for the most part, solid. If you're looking for something different (and I do mean *different*) then go ahead and try it, odds are you'll enjoy it.

One of the most refreshing experiences in gaming in the past few years, 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' combines gripping plot, great pacing, beautiful soundtrack and visually stunning scenery to deliver a masterpiece of a game.
As you explore Red Creek Valley as the occult detective Paul Prospero you will come across a wide variety of puzzles (none of which are particularly challenging to be fair) which will evenutally help you unravel the secrets of the place and of Ethan's mysterious disappearance.
If you're looking for a solid story and are ready to turn a blind eye to the game's somewhat disappointing length (around 4 to 5 hours), then be sure to purchase 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' - you are unlikely to regret it.

Pros:
-one of the few fully fledged RPGs to feature vampires (and I'm not even a vampire fan)
-interesting twist on the vampires - 7 playable clans, each with their own strengths and weaknesses
-nonlinear gameplay - sneak around without being seen or slaughter everyone with a gun
-diverse 'disciplines' (basically supernatural powers) - invisibility, charm, induce insanity and more
-decent dialogue system
-good plot with ingenious quests
-strong cast of characters
-can be witty at times, playing with stereotypes and such
-length - it probably took me around 30+ hours to finish, including most of the subquests (don't mind the hours on record, I often play in offline mode)

Cons:
-the graphics (that is to be expected from a game released in 2004) - clipping issues are unfortunately quite common
-difficulty spikes - very easy at first, can be frustrating at the end depending on what weapons you're using
-lackluster and unbalanced combat system - upgrading your melee comabt skills will only increase the damage you deal, the movesets and attack speed remain the same (or improve just slightly); there is also no good reason to choose unarmed combat over melee weapons
-hubs offer relatively little to do once the sidequests are finished (justified in that you only ever walk the streets at night)
-buggy (be sure to install unoffical patches)
-the inventory can be messy
-price - about 20 bucks for a ten-year-old game that isn't even a cult classic (albeit, for what it is - a very decent RPG, perhaps it should be)

My rating: 7.5/10

Disclaimer: A Pad is pretty much a must have for the game. I don't advice buying if you're hoping for keyboard controls (you can use keyboard but it feels clumsy and unwieldy). A great choice for all Naruto fans, the game features a plethora of playable characters, interesting, semi-linear gameplay and beautifully animated cutscenes. Take part in the 4th Great Ninja War or face your friends online to show the who's the boss.
