The NieR Replicant remake is an action-RPG for PC, PS4, XB1, PS5, Xbox Series S/X.
It's a spinoff/sequel to Drakengard for the PS2 which is a sequel to Drakengard 3 for the PS3, which is a sequel-prequel to Drakengard for the PS2.
In this game, you're a young man trying to cure his sister's illness. She is plagued by a plague that threatens humanity's extinction.
Together, with a flying magic book, a nice boobas hermaphrodite and a gay skeletor boy, you embark on your journey, slaughtering monsters known as "Shades" and looking for "Sealed Verses" that unlock magic powers.
Halfway through the game, it gets really serious and slowly but surely, the truths of this world start appearing, if you are keen to notice them.
What are you, the protagonist truly?
What is it that you are doing?
What are the Shades?
What happened to the world?
This game is a tragedy. There is no happy ending, sorry to spoil you.
It's a post-apocalyptic JRPG, immersing the player in a world where the truth seems so close, yet so far.
It makes you ask, was knowing the truth worth it? Because the characters in the game would surely be happier not knowing it.
The remastered soundtrack is awesome, they did a really good job remastering and recomposing the songs from the original 2010 release of NieR (Replicant/Gestalt) on the PS3/XB360. The soundtrack makes you feel.
I gave the 2010 version an 8.5/10 but because my love for the game grew since then and also due to the addition of ending E for the remake, I'll confidently give Nier Replicant ver.1.2247... a solid 9/10.
A must-play for any action JRPG lover, or any video game lover, or anyone that loves good stories... or anyone, for that matter.

NieR Automata is an action RPG for the PC, PS4 and XBONE and is the sequel of NieR on the PS3/XB360 which itself is a prequel of Drakengard 1 for the PS2 but even that is a sequel of Drakengard 3 that came out in 2013 as a prequel-sequel for the PS3. In this game, you are some sentient androids that are fighting machines who have also achieved sentience. It makes you think about what being a human is really about and shows us a world long after the humans left it but their mark is still there. It is very philosophical and extremely tragic, much like you would expect a game in the Nier and the Drakengard series to be. The characters are constantly questioning their existence and purpose in "life". They're alive even if they are manmade objects. The gameplay is really fun and diverse and the soundtrack is so good that I could call it one of the best soundtracks ever. It's very emotional. 8/10 amazing game, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ PC port. I recommend you to play Nier on the PS3 or emulate it before playing this game, it will make you FEEL more. Or if you wanna go even deeper, play all the Drakengard 3, then Drakengard, then Nier, then this. But in any case, if you never played this game... you're missing out.

UPDATE: The Microsoft Store version of the game (Become as Gods edition) came out and damn, it blows this version out of the water. It runs better, offers more options (FidelityFX and BORDERLESS!!!). I have made the mistake of buying the DLC yesterday (March 22nd 2021) without knowing the game is FREE (+DLC) with XBOX Game Pass for PC (that I own). I regret my choice. Please, update this game to make my purchase worth it. I'm not changing my review because there's mods that make the game run better and look better but even so, it's... shameful. The only way to make this right is to just update the steam version to the newest build, the become as gods version, like the fans demand. I'm disappointed, Square.

UPDATE: Square listened to us and updated the game. Good times!

Amazing game, if you are a fan of the DMC franchise, you will at the very least like this game.
Intriguing story and characters, fun and snappy gameplay, good graphics that still hold up even today.
An absolute classic, like all DMC games (except 2, we don't talk about that one).
It's showtime!
