This game literally fulfills my dream of sick fight choregraphy with cool edgy music in the background and it's only 5 bucks

buy it and trust me you won't regret it, it also has an incredible workshop support with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of broken characters that do the coolest sh*t imaginable

ps: it's also really easy to learn

I'm going to start this review by saying that before starting FF14 I was NOT a fan of the MMO genre, I tried my hand at a few of them (WoW, SWTOR, Guild Wars 1 and 2) but none of them ever clicked and I always found those games to be boring.

But despite all of that, I still decided to get into this game back in February 2022, because a lot of friends around me kept recommending it to me and also because I fell in love with the cinematic trailer for Shadowbringers (Seriously the music is so good).

And what a great decision that was.
Within my first 10h on the game, I was hooked.
I just loved everything about this game:
The beautiful world of Eorzea rebuilt after a disastrous calamity that happened 5 years before the start of the game, the different characters that you interact through the story and that, for the most part, will go through different arcs, growing alongside your character. And even the community, sure there are quite a few bad apples in there, but for the most part, every interaction I've had was pleasant.

The beginning of the game can be quite boring for some people, and while it wasn't for me, I totally understand where the frustration comes from. But if you manage to get through this, you'll be rewarded by one of the best story I've ever experienced in a video-game.
I know this is easy to say that "the game gets better after this many hours" but it's true (And again, It got good from the very beginning for me and I'm someone that is REALLY hard to please when it comes to getting hooked).
If you get past the ~50h of ARR you'll be rewarded by more than 300h of great storytelling, it's honestly not that bad of a deal.

If you're not here for the story... Well that's going to be a bit of a problem since all of the Endgame content is locked behind the story, you could still buy a skip but that would be quite expensive since you'll have to buy a story skip AND a level skip which would be around the price of the game.
But, from what I've experienced so far in my (almost) 780h of gameplay, the endgame content is great and challenging. I've had a lot of fun doing some of the extreme trials with my Free Company (the name for Guilds in this game) and I can't wait to do more of them.

The music is also one of the main selling point of the game, the music for this game was mainly composed by Nobuo Uematsu (The guy behind some of the most legendary songs from the FF series) and Masayoshi Soken and let me tell you that those 2 composed some wonderful pieces of music.
I usually am not a fan of "epic fantasy music" that you find in stuff like WoW, LOTR or even some FF games, and while there are some songs that fits the description in FF14 (Mainly during the first two storyline), the music in this game is really diverse. Sometime you could fight through a maze while Acid Jazz plays in the background or you could be fighting a giant mecha while some kind of Christian Rock Music plays as you get wiped, or fight a tree god while some Nu Metal from the 2000s starts playing- It's just so diverse. That's why I love the music in this game so much, it completely is part of the FF14 experience.

I don't really know what to say more about this game, I love it, I truly do, I've shed tears, laughed, screamed, and felt so many different things while playing it, it's an unique experience that I wish I could experience again.

If you have a slight interest in this game, go for it. It'll be worth it. And if you don't want to "waste your money" there is still the free trial that lets you play through the base game + the first expansion FOR FREE without time restriction (Though you will have some gameplay restriction but nothing too bad). So you won't be losing anything except maybe your time but honestly it ain't that bad of a loss right?

TL;DR: Biggest MMO hater got their life ruined by FF14 so you should waste your life on this game too
