UPDATE SINCE SEASON 3.
Do not be fooled by all the youtubers, or the new season. The game is still in a terrible state. Portal just isnt worth it either, i found a whol 12 people playing. (thursday evening during a free to play weekend!)

If you for some reason dont have it go and buy Battlefield 4, should cost about a quarter of the price of this game AND its more fun. (ps it has a railgun too,)

So i decided to try my hand at BF2042. having followed the news surrounding its announcement, development and everything. Having played BF4 to death: i decided to see if the terrible rumors surrounding this game were true...
Sadly, they pretty much are: This game is in nowhere near a state of release. Dont bother wasting money on this. Its been out for less then 3 months and it is already at 33% off. In another 3 months you can most likely pick it up for like 5 bucks during the Spring sale...

Okay so on to my experience...
Where to start, played for about an hour and had multiple serious clipping issues. gameplay wasnt particularily engaging and the AI that is filling every server. (because barely anyone was playing when i was on atleast) was absolutely terrible.
From a range to standing still without even reacting whilst getting mowed down by a machinegun, to shooting a fullspeed Spitfire out of the air with a panzerschrek (whilst at altitude) the AI is on BOTH ends.
Movement felt incredibly clunky. (somehow sliding didnt make the movement any better... Who wouldve guessed?)
Also, if there is any game to give an award for worst brightness settings it is probably this one. When asked to set my brightness on first startup, the menu i was in gave NO indication of what i was changing and by how much. All i got was a slider and the choice to set it somewhere without a single grain of feedback.

Furthermore, having played Cod 2019/Warzone i had some familiar encounters:

Got clunky third person kill animations from Warzone
The heroes instead of classes feel like a copy from warzone (or literally any other hero shooter)
Got a guy that lets you insert new armor plates in your vest... (im not even going to say it)
Allmost all mechanics that the heroes offer stem from other popular games.
the damn killfeed is even in the same location as warzone.

If you are looking for a terrible CoD warzone experience (that is also 60$ when it isnt on sale)
This might be the game you are looking for.

Also if you are one of those like me and are hoping that Battlefield Portal will let you relive your childhood memories playing bf2:
Just drop your hopes, at the current state it doesnt even look particularily good. And it suffers from all the problems that the main game has.

Look at the reviews, Look at the price of this game, look at gameplay of it. dont buy it. (Maybe sometimes in the future this game gets patched but seeing how the last battlefield went down we'll probably see a big update somewhere next year after all support for the game gets dropped...

Okay, where to start.

This game has some decent gameplay loops every now and then and it sure looks promising. But at the moment it is just that, handling weapons is rather stiff. (And i dont mean that its not H3VR levels of weapon handling,) the game is still rather barebones. (Especially the lack of healing options come to mind.)

My personal feelings aside: The most important thing to keep in mind is that "Into the radius" is very much still in BETA.
This might not be a problem for you because for example you've seen the pictures on the store page and decided that it was worth to buy this game... However! Beta means that everything is subject to change, and changed it has, which is why i will leave a negative review and urge people not to buy this game (yet...?)
There is a solid chance that you will end up being dissapointed because one of your favourite features gets cut out or changed (looking at the steam forums, you wouldnt be the first one)
So again, Its not wise to buy this game now. You have no clue what it will turn into, and im suspecting the developers arent that certain yet either.

Now it is time for the elephant in the room.
Is this game similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? No, NOT AT ALL! (If you are looking for an experience like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. a good game to pick up is S.T.A.L.K.E.R., duh) there are no NPC's for example. (Will they get added later? Who knows, they arent in the game now.) The gameplay is also considerably more forgivable, perhaps this is done because a "Real" S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in VR would probably be excruiciatingly difficult.
And third of all, for me the main reason to not look at this game like "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Experience" is the completely different atmosphere. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is like a terrible nightmare, where Into the Radius is more like a fever dream. (If that makes sense to anyone who hasnt played both games ill be impressed)
Now personally i do hold the developers accountable for this confusion and the borderline "Bandwagoning" on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. legendary status. On the storepage it even mentions "A Roadside Picnic" the book that has (In the 21st century) pretty much become synonymous with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, (and IMO nowadays mostly gets mentioned when people make a game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but feel they are regarded as copycats if they mention the game directly)

Now finally to end on a positive note: I have had some enjoyable hours in Into the radius before and i won't deny that ill have them again, my major reasoning to urge people not to buy this game is because the chance of your features being cut out (Or left as an older variant with little updates and the improvements that those updates bring!) is rather high, so for now: Keep your money but come back to this game every now and then to look how the development is going.

To conclude ill ask the development team if they mind adding an "Electro Anomaly" because honestly, that be incredibly cool, and would broaden the dangers that the
zone , ehm... i mean Radius brings

Never before have i seen a publisher/developer treating its playerbase with such disrespect as Gaijin has done.
Attempting to appease the playerbase by making the repaircosts less whilst reducing the amount of rewards people get after playing a match so the the netto income stays the same. Pretty much all in an effort to get people to spend actual money on their premium currency.

Now it is possible to play this game and both have a decent time but that means you are limited to planes from 1943 and earlier. If you are here because you saw the cool jets and modern tanks in a trailer: Turn around NOW, there is nothing here like what you saw. Even if you somehow manage to spend the 1400 hours required to get to those jets, you will still need to repair it if it gets damaged which will costs more then you will earn even if battles taking almost 2 hours.

This isnt a game, this is a cashgrab disguised as a game.
Seriously, check the comments on the developer update posts, nobody who plays this game has a genuinely good time!

Where do i start...

The problem with this game is that when you fully explain what makes it great, it loses its magic.
So i try to not to go into the game as much but more into what it meant to me.

The Talos Principle as a whole has changed not only the way i think but also how i percieve myself and everything around it. If you truly get invested in this game, expect your beliefs to be challenged, your assumptions to be broken and much more.
Accompanied by an amazing soundtrack, you make your way through puzzles that get increasingly more difficult. All the while you are in these peaceful enviroments filled with secrets.
As much as some people would like to stress that this is a puzzlegame, its not. Dont feel turned off just because you dont like puzzlegames. Im not that big of a "puzzleexpert" either but the philosophical journey throughout this game was something i can only dream of ever doing for the first time again.

Early Access Review
Sooo, i picked up this game quite recently and im definitly impressed.
got under pretty decent fire and essentially cried for help for 10 minutes straight.
If you decide to pickup this game be prepared to focus on teamwork otherwise people will get angry at you, its a very heavily teamfocused game and people expect you to work together because you are not going to achieve anything on your own.
Overall really great game but it takes some getting used to...

Also expect some toxic close minded people but dont worry there is a healthy bunch of supportive veterans out there to help you learn the basics in exchange.)

[X] Gave me unironicly mild PTSD
[X] Looks okay
[X] Decent community

I personaly picked this up because setting up (MP) missions in Arma 3 became too much of a hastle and it does everything i ask.
