I Got To Know the Devil and You Should Too
We Know the Devil is one of the most personally important games I've played in a very long time. The game centers around three kids during their stay at a Christian camp for supposedly bad kids and their encounter with "the Devil"*. Throughout the game you play as Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune, and learn about them and their repression of LGBT baggage. The main mechanic of the game is that you choose a pair from the three characters every hour of the game, and whoever you exclude the most is the character who gets their ending. I won't divulge too much about the story, but Aevee's writing is genuinely some of the best I've had the pleasure to read through and immerse myself in in a long while.

It's one of the best visual novels I've played. It's short, but sweet. There are four total endings and each is about forty-five minutes to play through. If you play through the full game (all of the endings), then your playtime may come to about four hours at the most. Three of the endings focus on specific characters while the fourth ending is a true ending that, after having played through the other three endings and learning about the characters, their dynamics, and their repressed issues, made me well up with tears. Admittedly this fourth ending is a little vague on how to achieve, but there are guides online that give you a step by step list of choices to make to get it and if you understand the game's main mechanic then it's not a hard concept to understand how to get it.

The art and imagery in the game is also part of what sells this game to me. I absolutely adore Mia's artwork for the game. The character sprites are wonderful, the backgrounds really capture the vibe of the game, and the cinematic art that you get during each ending is so perfect for capturing each character's main struggles. The music for the game, by Alec Lambert, does an amazing job at making you feel uncomfortable or calm at the right moments. I'm also a huge fan of synth usage in music, so it also really does it for me in that department. And as I've been praising throughout this review, the writing by Aevee Bee is y'know, kinda cool I guess...

As a sapphic transwoman, playing this game made me have more than my fair share of coming-to-terms moments thanks to the amazing work by the Worst Girls Games team. I would personally recommend this to any people looking for a good LGBT experience.

*Also, I wrote "the Devil" in quotes because, while at a glance it may seem like this game is preaching satanism or something along those lines, the Devil and all references to it is purely symbolism. I just wanted to make that clear so it wouldn't deter anyone looking to play this game that's iffy about the mentions of the Devil.

I feel that it's about time I finally say this, so sit down and prepare yourselves for some very, very controversial thoughts.

I think that Bad Rats is a ♥♥♥♥ game.

There, I said it. I'm opening my arms to the influx of death threats and doxing that is about to come my way, and I am willingly accepting it all. But my opinion stands strong that this game, Bad Rats, is an incredibly masterful piece of fecal matter. Get this game and see for yourselves; judge whether or not the purchase was worth blowing a few bucks in spite of my review.
