As a consequence people who dislike Rogue Legacy truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Johannes' existential quote “I've tried pushing it, kicking it, yelling "Open Sesame," but nothing works,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Antoine Galland’s Middle Eastern folk tale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those moron scrubs scratching their heads in confusion as Teddy Lee’s genius wit unfolds itself on their monitors. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rogue Legacy. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of medieval fables most of the jokes will go over a typical player’s head. There’s also Johannes’ existentialistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Quantum suicide, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE.
