Fantastic Game that lasts just the right amount

Terra Nil is a fantastic puzzle game. The twist of having to clean up after yourself creates a very nice train of thought from the beginning of the run that feels very fresh. I 100%-ed normal difficulty and got all the achievements, progression through the world chart doesn't take too long, but if you want to complete all the secondary objectives you more or less are gonna triple your game time, but you don't feel pressured to. Terra Nil quickly placed itself as one of my favourite games.

Strong points:
  • Game with chill vibe, that follows you in gameplay
  • Cleaning up after yourself ads a nice layer of strategy to the game form the beginning of a run
  • Lasts the right amount of time, a couple of hour to completin + extra for 100%
  • The tutorial is easy to follow and effectively teaches you how to play before letting you in the driver seat
  • The procedural generation of levels doesn't feel completely random, it seems to be manually tailored by the developers, this makes repeating levels enjoyable and not feel like a chore
  • The extra levels give a nice challenge and force you to rethink about how you used all the mechanics discovered before, this levels feel very arcade-y, more so than the base levels, and I absolutely love it

I have a couple of small complaints with the game, but they did not affect my enjoyment of it:
  • Completing the it rains now climate objective on any given level basically solves the scenario by itself, you get so many resources that you can entirely ignore the mechanic for the rest of the run, maybe on hard difficulty this changes, but I felt it was overtuned even for normal
  • Screenshots made with the in game screenshot feature don't go to the default steam folder, but instead go to a newly created folder on desktop, I thought that was a little weird
  • There were a couple of graphical bugs, like tile single tiles floating in mid air or the monorail tracks that diverge in weird ways when there is an interection of more than 3 tracks
  • The climate objectives could be formatted better, sometimes objectives switch order and that caused me to double back on them multiple times. I feel like a classic table could be better

All in all Terra Nil gets a Strong Recommendation from me, i loved playing it, and can see myself doing a new run on harder difficulty in the future. It has some insignificant problems that caould be fixed in a future update. Anyone who likes puzzle games will enjoy playing this game. Personally I'm gonna start following the developers for any new games they are gonna be working on next.
