The game doesn't let you into the settings before the story begins.
After I skipped through the cutscenes to go into the settings, I noticed that it doesn't have a windowed mode. I play all my games windowed, so I had to check around online to see if it is possible to play it windowed, which is not the case!

It also has no language settings inside the game, you gotta set the language via Steam.

You also can't change the buttons inside the game, you gotta do that through Steam aswell. I wanted to use the d-pad for movement, which didn't register at all, even though it shows that it should work ingame, so I went into bigpicture mode and changed it there.

So anyway, after all that, I reluctantly start playing in fullscreen...

The game offers classic 2d sidescrolling platformer action, a bit like the dkc series and the movement is very responsive, but feels a bit like you're fast forwarding? I guess it is a bit too responsive? No matter, I got no problems with that, you actually start getting used to it quite fast.

What I do got a problem with, is that once you've passed certain points in a level, the game will put a checkpoint that is impossible to go back from. In a game that wants you to explore and find hidden treasure while playing, not being able to explore freely is a huge downside imo.

I was only 2 levels into the game, when I saw it happening and noticed how the game tracks time, if you got hit, got the treasure and all the "coins" (are they shells? I am not sure) Either way, if it forced me further into the level without a way to go back, I am not exploring. So I played through the game without getting everything, which I usually love doing, especially in 2d games.

The game also has some gliding sections.. they are the hardest part of the game. The controls don't work well at all imo. If you hit a wall you lose a heart and get reset a bit before it happened. Sometimes in front of walls, unable to move out of the way in time, losing all hearts and respawn. There are no checkpoints during these gliding sections, so do it aaaall over again.

The bosses aren't that bad, though I dislike that you gotta wait a full cycle of the enemy attack pattern, before you can land one hit. I prefer it if you can hit bosses all the time, risk and reward. These waiting type of bosses aren't really for me, it feels cheap.

If you enjoy this game, there is a lot to do, it unlocks arcademode at the end, so it does have content once you've finished it. But just playing through the game and story once, was enough for me.

This ones a really disgusting 3d platformer, but not in a bad sense.
Its theme is all about doing disgusting things, experiencing crazy stuff, lots of blood, lots of waste, all that stuff. Its a colorful 3d platformer, but aimed at adults. There are no brakes, the story is to make the most disgusting pie there is, collecting ingredients for it, which range from rotten stuff, to blood and vomit to bugs.

Beneath all that is a solid 3d platformer with lots of movement options and a ton to explore if you wish to do so. Personally I think it is best to search as much as you can in one go, but trying to collect EVERYTHING seems to be a chore. So just play it the way you enjoy the most, it doesn't really hurt to not get everything! The different levels and overworlds are all interesting imo. I quite enjoyed going through them. Settings you won't see in other 3d platformers!

While the movement is great, it does have one flaw that I disliked. Your swing in the air is highly dependant on how the little helper guy positions when you press it. So it can just end up hitting a wall, ceiling or whatever and just lets you fall. I dunno, it feels like that shouldn't be the case, as it is very unintuitive. The camera also sometimes is behind a wall... or lets say its stuck behind some decoration of the maps. In the Jungle, you might suddenly see a screen full of leaves instead of anything going on with your character. Not that often, but it is a bit annoying sometimes. Also on some platforms, your shadow is missing, makes it a bit weird to jump onto them. I didn't have a problem with it, but it still felt weird.

I got through this at 92% completion, so I was pretty good at exploring I think. But as I've seen pretty much everything, I don't see a point in continuing to search. That would only make my experience the game less enjoyable. I had a great time, despite the flaws I listed here!

Garden Story is a cute little adventure. Nothing demanding, just simple collecting and hitting a bit of stuff. The artstyle is also cute.

You complete a few requests, which also aren't that deep and go on your days. You can take as much time as you want, slowly getting all the outfits and leveling all the different towns, but it is not necessary to complete the story, it just helps you by getting stronger, as you are able to buy better upgrades for your items.

The story isn't that deep either, but I liked it enough that it kept me going, wanting to complete the game.

Can I recommend it though? Well if you like what I've just said, I'd definitely recommend it. However standalone, as it is. It doesn't offer much. You will be doing the same things over and over again, running from A to B, slaying the same enemies again and again. The only times you'll encounter something new, as as you continue the story and get more of the story or the next area and items.

Every new area has a new weapon for you, every new area has a new boss in one of the mini dungeons, but the dungeons themselves are also very simple, sadly if you redo dungeons, the rooms are exactly the same, so you'll be redoing the same "puzzles" if you can call them that, everytime. Some items can only be found in these dungeons, so if you want to upgrade your stuff, you gotta do the same thing multiple times.

Overall the game is a lot of "do it again".

Fun little Rythm game. The story is all over the place and drags on a bit too long. The textboxes stay too long and the characters like to run the jokes for too long. I had a few good laughs, but this game is about the gameplay, the music, the rythm and how it feels to play!

The music is nice, it has many clean tracks that are nice to play and jam with. However the rythm part....? The automatic calibration thing just doesn't work correctly. I did it multiple times, everytime with totally different results and none of which felt good. I even tried fiddling with it manually, but nothing seems right. The automatic stuff had results ranging from 100ms to 20ms. Even though I am sure I am always clicking the same spot. I settled at 40ms in the end. I don't know why this feels so weird, but not a single other rythm game felt that far off until now. I just can't seem to hit the right spots.

This game only uses 2 buttons + 1 dodge button and I am used to 6 buttons + 2 bonus buttons inbetween. Much faster than this game aswell. I know I am capable of hitting these notes, but as soon as the songs in this game get faster and you gotta alternate between 2 buttons quickly. It just completely stops registering any input whatsoever. I am very sure that I am not missing these clicks. Or maybe they just want you to be that much more precise when clicking them so quick after another? No matter, I just can't figure it out.

I also don't really like the way you look at the notes coming towards you. Maybe thats whats tripping me up. the rounded diagonal kind of way of them coming, the way they are that close to one another, overlapping into their lanes. No idea. It looks nice on the surface, but it doesn't FEEL nice. I'd very much prefer for them to be a bit further apart. If it wants you to hit the same side multiple times, maybe it wants me to hit it faster than my finger can move? I always seem to miss those, even though I always hit perfect on single notes? Maybe because the screen moves forward, but doesn't actually move? Maybe they're just coming too quickly into view? No idea what exactly is causing this, but it doesn't feel right imo.

I just played through all the maps once and will call it a day. I really wanted to like this, but something just isn't quite right here.

I actually prefer this game over Enter the Gungeon, just because I was never able to finish Enter the Gungeon, because I was so bad, that I never even really got that far into the game. There is just too much stuff going on and I'd end up getting hit in some way or another without realizing it, even with lots of runs being done.

In this one, the problem still exists. I am still bad and overwhelmed by all the stuff going on, however as it is kept simpler, I was able to get further more quickly and actually feel like I'm playing the game this time. So I am very well aware that this is a personal problem of not being good enough for the old game, but I also feel like I am used to playing pretty hard games usually... just not the same kind of hard. I am better at hard platforming stuff or Soulslikes etc.
Bullethell games have just too much going on, I just can't get used to it.

Anyway, as the game is simpler, I can actually learn it better and was actually able to beat it the 5 times for 5 characters!

I gotta say though, I think the door to proceed in the first shoparea could have been made a bit more... flashy? I didn't even notice the black frame in the dark background at all. I had to look up a video, on how to actually move on from there. All the other doors had huge frames around them, but were optional fighting rooms! Now I know that they got a torch to each side, but that just made the black square in the background even less noticable. If you know, you know. Now I no longer have that trouble, but it was kinda annoying to have to search for it.

Also I had to restart the game a few times, before it actually saved my volume settings in windows. I put the game down to 3%, but it didn't change anything, restarted, was back at 100%. Did it again. No luck. Okay, gotta change the volume ingame. Ingame are only a few options. The lowest is without sound, the next one already too loud. Great. But then after a 3rd try, it actually worked through windows. Never had a game do that before, and it actually saved too. Yay!

Sadly game does have a glitch on one of the bosses. (The Catboss) It can just vanish and you gotta restart the run. Hasn't been fixed ever. At least its near the beginning, but I had to restart with an incredibly good start in items multiple times... very annoying.
I noticed that it tends to happen, when you want to dodgeroll, while the boss is physically inside you. So if you jump + roll in the air, while going through that boss to dodge stuff. You will most certainly make the boss disappear. So don't ever dodge twice while fighting that boss I guess?

It is a bit short, there isn't really that much content to go through, I feel like once you've seen all the bosses, levels and enemies, there isn't really much of a point in continuing to play it... but if you want to, you can still replay it hundreds of times to farm all the items and hats and whatnot? I have a lot of stuff left to unlock, but I'm satisfied with what I got and what I've seen.

This was a fun little game! I can totally recommend this!

You play golf with lots of twists and different abilities in a 2d setting. It is a roguelike game, so you always start from the beginning, if you've failed, but the bosses you only gotta beat once and they'll give you permanent powers.

You'll be using cards to give yourself abilities, from flying a bit, to having multiple tries for a shot, or multiple shots while in the air to reach completely new places! Even digging through walls and ground, or phasing through obstacles with the right cards, makes this game very satisfying once you skip half a course with them!

It says on the tags that its a difficult game, but I do not think that is the case. It is fair. You need a bit of time to actually figure out the gimmicks and how each powerup works, but once you got that, the game isn't thaaaat hard. I got all the way to the end on my 3rd try already.

You can definitely make a lot of mistakes, but if your timing is good, since you can just retry to find the right amount of power for each shot, thats the only thing you really need. Good timing.

The music is also great and I love the pixelartstyle!

You may argue that the game doesn't let you see far enough for long distance shots sometimes, but as you can move the cam before you take your shot and check whats coming after that first, you'll only need to react once you've fired your shot and slow down your ball, or give it a little boost. It adds a bit to the difficulty and the game gives you so many tools to beat it, that it shouldn't be a big problem really.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. Very unique!

Oh boy, this is a very hard one for me. For one, I do like it if games simulate retro feeling and I did enjoy the first game. So I do not have a problem with the controls being clunky, as that was done on purpose.

But it just isn't as fun? It is hard alright, but hard to a frustrating degree imo. I played on veteran at first, but had to go down to easy. Even on easy this game is very hard. Especially as it has many passages designed for specific characters, that just don't work with other characters... Or if they work, they're incredibly much harder, than just using the right character. Well the right person died? Too bad, you got 3 others you gotta go through first, before you can try again, so jump into a pit with all the other characters, or just experience pain.

The hardmode actually kills off all characters if you die with a single one, which makes that smoother, but I don't play on hard, I play on easy. It just annoys me that I gotta do this to respawn the character I actually need.

Some passages I am very thankful for having knockback removed on easy, while on other passages the knockback could actually be used to damageboost. Overall I prefer it without the knockback after playing through this though. There are too many cheap ways to suddenly have an enemy or an attack be spawned so close to you, that it basically just pushes you randomly into a pit.

I do like how you can learn all the bosses though. They are what I'd consider the fairest part of the game, though if you're not playing on easy, you'll have a very hard time actually learning them, as you will be game over, before even figuring them out. There is just lots of stuff that wastes your time with cheap deaths. I do like a challenge, but the first game felt fair, this one does not.

The soundtrack is really good though!

Now this game wants you to play through all stages 3 times...
First episode is the first time.
Second episode is the second time. (Does it change much? No)

The first few stages have small differences, as you're collecting 3 items for the 4th stage, to be able to beat the final boss with it or something, I stopped halfway through, because the stages stopped having any changes whatsoever and I ABSOLUTELY HATE playing things twice or even more time. I looked it up online, to see if there is any significant change that I'd like to see, so it'd be worth doing?... but... no. One new boss and thats it.

So then I read something about having to do this stuff a third time, to be able to go to the true final boss? Again without changes? If I already dislike playing things twice, having to do it even more, is a huge pass for me. I enjoyed playing through it once, but I have no desire to keep doing it. It isn't fun enough for me to waste more time with. The movement isn't fun (on purpose, I get get that) The game doesn't feel rewarding at all. It forces you to repeat things over and over, while you're already doing that, by just playing through the game, as it isn't that easy to begin with. Aside from invincibility cheese.

If you really like these kinds of games, I believe you'll be satisfied. It wasn't for me though. I do enjoy a challenge, but I do not enjoy wasting my time.

I want to start with the textboxes as its the first thing you'll see.. they're all diagonal. It is very exhausting for my brain to read like that, or I'll try to turn my head, which isn't good for my neck. It is a stylization choice that fits the game, but I would prefer normal textboxes...

The game itself plays very smoothly, every enemy gets an easy to see healthbar, except for the levelending bosses. Which is very annoying, at first I didn't even notice it. Its very small at the bottom right of the screen, barely noticable in colors blending into the background. Because of that, it took me half the game to even see that it exists...

I don't really get what all the different weapons are about, as they all just seem to handicap myself instead of helping. The basic weapon seems to work just fine and if I don't see other weapons dealing significantly more damage, I see no point in using them. They're all harder to use anyway, so at least give me damage that I can actually feel.

The game also seems to have a set amount of loading screen time, as there is NO way, that it actually loads that long all the time. Makes dying pretty annoying, if you gotta wait for the loading to finish again, knowing your PC should be able to load it instantly.

In this game you play in a Megaman like setting, through different stages with a boss at the end. The gameplay itself is fun and I would really like to rate this positively, but too many things are just feeling like a chore. You have the same levels for 2 different characters, which play slightly differently, but I was fine with that. On top of that, both characters however, also get a bunch of bonus challenges. If you want to complete them all, or close to all of them, you'll be playing every stage at least 3 times, if not more. I hate doing things multiple times in games. Especially if the game forces me to do it.

Wait a second, it forces me? Yes. If you have played through both stories, you will need to have cleared about 80% of those challenges and beat the last stage AGAIN. Again as BOTH characters. How many times am I supposed to play through everything, if I want to see everything? Yes the game is short, they need something to keep you coming back, if you so desire, but I highly dislike having the true endings for a game locked behind having to play stuff many times. If you've done that, you unlock a new mode in the main menu. (which btw. only states that you need to clear the game to unlock, not even that you need to do so on both characters, much less that you need to do it twice on both characters with several challenges done...)

Also if you happen to have a mic plugged in. The Gunvolt final boss will want to have you sing along to be able to beat the boss. Let me as the player decide if I want to use a mic or not, do not just decide that. It was very annoying, having my sleeping wife next to me and suddenly the game wants me to be loud? No thank you.

Overall the game can be really fun, but for me personally, there have been way too many annoyances to be able to recommend it. Sadly.

First things first, I hate it when games menus and settings are unintuitive, or simply don't work. I gotta search for specific settings, because they name them differently from other games, hide them in other places and if you want to change your hotkeys, it doesn't even save them, unless you create a custom button profile. The game should TELL YOU that you need one, I was going crazy and had to research how to get the buttons to save. I am using an 80% keyboard. I do not own numpad buttons. Do not assign these buttons in the first place, or let me change them without all that hassle. I was already annoyed before even being able to play, that is a huge no go!

The font in this game can be changed in several ways, but as I am using a pretty small monitor compared to how big they can be nowadays, it feels like all the text is too small, no matter how you change it. I have not ever played another game giving me that problem. Just this one is super tiny, whats up with that? Anyway, after some getting used to that, I am not that annoyed by it anymore.

!! The review about the actual game starts here: !!

The game is a very basic strategy game, mostly because it has been a game from originally 1999. It is still fun though, but some things could have been explained better. Anyway, much boils down to being quick. But one example I can give, is the fisherboats can build fishnets to have an infinite food source, just like the farms. I wouldn't have figured that out without reading about it online. It just seems so counterintuitive to not do it through the building that crafts the ships imo. You gotta treat the fisherships as you do your normal workers, but that connection didn't happen for me.

Doing campaign missions, you are often left wondering, what the game exactly wants you to do. As an example, I got a bunch of workers, which I could not send to work, after a minute you need to flee, even though it says to defend first.

After they tell you, defending is pointless, you run away and find another place to stay and NOW the workers can actually work. I was thinking I did something wrong, but no, the game just doesn't tell you that it is the game that wants you to not be able to do anything yet. You just gotta lose once and figure out how the map plays. If you know, it is simple. I will chalk that up to the game originally being old, but it did annoy me quite a few times.

Rating the gameplay itself however, I think it is pretty decent. You gotta farm food, wood, stone and gold and build up your town. There are lots of things to research and upgrades to get, but if you're trying to get everything, you'll be too slow. You need some units that can fight. So you'll be multitasking resources, expanding, your army and defending/attacking things simultaniously. Well, pretty normal for a strategy game, but in this game its pretty simple. You don't have specific places you need to bring your resources to. You just get them, all around the map, any time. I like that, as I usually dislike micromanaging all the resources by carrying them from A to B. But because of that, most things simply depend on being fast.

I do dislike the missions too much though. It doesn't feel fun that you can lose by just losing your main unit, that you never know where to go and what to do before it actually happens. I mean it is cool in a way, makes it feel more alive too, but as the game itself is pretty slow, you'll be playing each mission for such a long time already, that I really don't like repeats. If I lose once, I am more mad, than I am dying 100 times in a platformer. It is an hour of replaying, trying to do it faster, better, with the knowledge you gained from your first try. Not my kind of gameplay loop. The game does many things well and is liked a lot and I can definitely see it being fun multiplayer and everything. But I prefer to spend my time elsewhere and play like 10 other games in the time, I would need to finish this one, so I stopped. There is simply too much content, to be repeating missions at all imo.

I have played rythm games before, but this classic style game with the bars coming from top, I have only played rarely. This is the first game in this typical style in which I actually tried to get better and played a lot. It really got me into it, I became a lot better and I am really enjoying all the content it has!

So many songs without buying any DLCs already that it took me quite some time to only play through every available song ONCE on easiest difficulty. By the time I was through them all, the easier songs were already too easy for me, so I played through every song again on hard difficulty! That alone is already playtime worth of a full game, but it also has ranked mode, missions, lots of customizable stuff and 4 different modes. At first, I was only playing the 4 button mode, but the game was actually able to also teach me the 6 button layout. It also has a 5 and 8 button mode, if you so desire! So if you want to play through all of those at least once, you'll be spending hundreds of hours on just the basic tracks! I am at ~50h while writing this review and I've only been through about half of the 4 and 6 button mode songs. (counting multiple difficulties, as I played from easiest to hardest)

I did spread out to other modes after having been able to do 4 button songs at around 7-8 star difficulty (max is 15)
Started doing missions, tried a bit of 5b and 8b, but got stuck on 6b. Now I also am around 7-8 star difficulty in 6b mode.

The 5b mode is really confusing for my brain and my tip would be to first skip it entirely, get used to the 6b layout and play 5b on the 6b layout.

I had to basically relearn playing it after switching from 4b to 6b, as my index fingers now played the different colored notes in the middle and the middlefingers were playing the notes the index ones played before. Opening up the ringfingers to also play notes. So I was back to playing 4b for a bit, but getting used to using the middle and ring fingers instead. After getting used to that, the other modes became a lot easier!

The amount of content is probably why I stuck to this game, other games only offer very few songs in comparison to this one, so I never really got into them, but this game, really showers you in content in comparison! I will continue to play this until I can no longer get better I think. I aim to finish all the songs getting at least an A rank before moving on to the next song. Sometimes though, an earlier song, can be a lot harder than songs that follow after and some songs starting in higher difficulties want you to hit buttons so quickly that it starts getting hard, because I feel like I can't move my fingers that fast for a longer period of time. Until now, I did get used to it though. I believe I will hit a wall at some point though.

I am very happy to have played this and learned it. I'll now be able to play games like this in the future without many problems!
