If you want to check this game out because you're curious and haven't seen more than people's praise of it, I would recommend you stop reading reviews now and go play it.

That's what I did and It really did surprise me, all around quite fun and kept me entertained for the time I gave it. As a player of irl card games it really did tug on a few heart strings in certain places, especially towards the end. The gameplay was interesting and brought several unique aspects unique to a digital card game that I hadn't seen before. The characters you meet along the way were great fun, and seeing their secrets and their interactions was sweet. The deckbuilding felt quite sleek, a lot of the time you could keep your decklist quite short and it would still pack a punch.

I do reserve a few criticisms however. As much as I can understand that the game features digital horror and pays homage to the classic 'haunted cartridge' creepy pastas - I feel like some of the choices they made were a little cheap: often times there would be harsh static and glitch sounds, as well as lots of visual stuff that comes at you very suddenly which I understand is the point of it, but a lot of the time it went on for way too long and at some points I had to take my headphones off and look away, even with the volume set to the lowest.

The video sections that centre around Luke were not to my taste at all, the first few were good and set the scene, but by the end I was just clicking them to get through them in case there was a secret or something that I ought to see. And Act 3 of the game lost my attention a little bit, it dragged on a little too long for me.

All in all I had a great time with this game, but seeing how many achievements I had missed I would normally feel compelled to go back and hunt them out, especially with roguelikes and card games like this. However, for this game I can't quite put my finger on it but I have no ambition to do that here - make of that what you will.
