I can see why some people thought it was the worst in the series. I got so tired of the repetativness at points I just skipped content. But it was definetly worth playing for anyone who enjoyed the other souls games.
Now after my nonsensicalness pros cons,
Cons:
It can get really repetative, for the DLC maps after you run all the way through you have to go back to get items to make the bosses even slightly possible to beat

Maps aren't as nice as DS1, it kind of feels like your in a constant dungeon except for 3 places

The intro video, I mean, I might be alone here but the starting was AWFUL

Pros:
They redid a lot of mechanics for the better
Dual weilding was less fiction, weapons were added, and a lot of movesets were improved

You don't really fat roll anymore unless you around 70% or higher weight

Its a souls game, endless deaths or not, bosses were still challenging and fun to fight.

(whole things badly worded but tried to do some goods and bads, if you like the first Dark souls you'll at least like this one)

Its a good game and has a skill check, but its not without its bugs.

Before I say anything i'd just like to make it clear that if I could do a neutral review I would. Its a brilliant game, but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend unless they really like dungeon crawlers
While it does have a lot of content, a rather unique system, and the makings of a story, it doesn't have a clear plotline, progression, and its rather grindy at points.
What I mean by having a lot of content, is you could spend hours upon hours playing the game and never finish. Their last update also added an extention with new boss battles that sent it to "112%" completition, but while you can spend all that time you'd have to really enjoy this kind of back and forth, got an ability now I can progress on the other side of the world kind of games.

As for unique system it is a classic dungeon crawler like layout the fighting is unique part. Can't really explain it and you'd have to see it, but its mostly annoying and skill based or repeated tries like dark souls lol.

By makings of a story, when you start the game theres a cutscene and some stuff you can read, but if you haven't finished the game already none of it makes sense. And overall its a vague overlying story that doesn't really correlate to what your doing till near the end.
There is one, and maybe I didn't pay enough attention, but I guess this is just the review of an average gamer then.

One of the easiest examples for grindy, and the main one, is that to get to the final stages of the game you have to get 1800 of a certain resource. You get this by fighting spirits to challenge to fights or by finding nodes for it. After I hit every node and fought every spirit I found in ~20 hours I had 800. Spent 3 more hours going around and got 1.2k, and keep in mind that when you go around the map it automatially places markers for graves you were even near, along with having to explore nearly the whole thing to even get to this point.

All in all its a good game, has some flaws like everything else. But i'd only reccomend it if you really like the category.

This game, is a good one for new people to get in. Its a good enough game, but it has a lot of problems to me personally. Anyone new to the series this probably wouldn't apply to since your not sure what to expect from MH

Time locked content

Lack of dev competence (lets make a mechanic that has people walk around picking stuff up during an active fight with a monster since if you wait to long it'll disapear and thats how you get your loot)

They seemed to be more focused on how to sell us pendants then putting thought into half of the things in this game

There was also, a lack of "meaningful" content. Unless you can count hundreds of hours of doing the same exact thing in hopes of getting the gear you want from the gacha as "meaningful"

40% of my hours came from gacha, 20% came from playing with friends, and the remaining 40% came from mods.
Which is another thing that annoyed me, people provide free content to your game to fill the void between your own updates and you try to can modding??? The devs actively tried to stop modding attempts numerous times before giving up and just making petty edits that made you have to update your mods for no reason

After 2 years of all of the loyal ark players helping make this game better the devs are now turning all our servers into a seperate cluster then the new "improved" servers their adding, and starting to wipe the old ones(told us we'd have a 30 day notice if our server is being wiped and that they'd do 10%) They wiped 33% of servers and gave a 5 day notice. Their also denying support with ingame issues to what they now call "legacy" servers.
