IMO conflict is based in deception, to believe otherwise is a misconception.
Where the deception lies is determined by the scale of ones perception.
How one should engage conflict is with an aim to grow your perception.
Conflict is inherent, it is impartial, it exists as a catalyst for/of change.
More than that one may often chose how and why to engage conflict.
