I played several characters, and none had moves or combo chains that were intuitive to me.

I would need to study extensively to be able to play this game competently, and it wouldn't be a "quick" process. Even if I invested that time I doubt I'd be able to be "creative" with my gameplay, at least not in the way that I would want, when combo options seem so strict.

Probably one of the few games that have stressed me out so much I felt nauseated. Just a cautionary review to anyone who might be in my same boat; strive isn't exactly friendly to newbies. Make sure you know what you're getting into, and have time to commit to gitting gud. I definitely don't.

If I had been born in the future I would've had access to better healthcare and education... but I might not have experienced Tactical Breach Wizards. Willing to chalk it up as a wash.

Tactical Breach Wizards has earned a spot as one of my favorite puzzle/tactics games ever. It's easy to get into but has real depth, in both gameplay and story. Go play it.

Not sold? Well, pull up a chair and let me get all analytical about it:

+ The writing is silly, but doesn't sacrifice story to do it. The studio knew when it make it lighthearted and funny like the trailer, and when to give it some emotional bite.
+ The gameplay is versatile. On easier difficulties you can play your favorite character setups and have a smooth time. On harder difficulties, you get real challenges along with meta-puzzles of what perks you need for optimal completion. There's depth to explore here.
+ Every character feels different in both story and gameplay. Their story and gameplay develop across the narrative. Might seem like a low bar, but many games with much more focus on story progression don't achieve this.
+ The visuals & audio are iconic.
+ Is a finished and polished game. When was the last time you saw a game release like that?
+ Custom levels. You can make your own maps, or play other people's maps. It's really cool. I wouldn't be surprised if modding becomes a thing.
- I'm struggling to come up with a flaw. I mean, there's no voice acting? That's a bit of a shame. That's the only thing I can think of, though. Might've been difficult to deliver some of these lines anyway.

One of the more impressive parts of this game from a design aspect is how it blurs the line between puzzle game and tactics game. You can play it as a puzzle game by planning ahead, but as levels get more complex that planning gets more difficult. The latter half on hard difficulty got so messy it really felt like a tactics game to me, and I had a wonderful time.

That sort of design along with this story is ridiculously hard to pull off; it's no wonder this game took them so long to make.
Reward the studio with a purchase. They've already earned it, but who knows? Maybe we'll get some more defenestration.

Being able to listen to these songs anywhere you want is nice. While you could mute the in-game music and play music separately, you'd miss out on attenuation for conversations or other audio effects the game throws in.

The big problem is that the radio turns off during battles. Imagine running through a dungeon listening to your karaoke jams, just for them to get interrupted every 20s... It's just kind of annoying. Can't really listen to the music in this DLC while also playing the game, so why waste your money?

Looks like a flash game. Cutscenes play out like a Saturday morning cartoon.
These things would be mistakes in any other game, but here? It feels genuine. Nostalgic, even.

Functionally Dawnsbury Days is a PF2E combat sim, and it's moddable. Give it a shot if that's your style.

Projectiles are simulated, and where they land matters. You can even make enemies friendly fire on their own allies, or through clever movement, make missiles return to sender. Easily one the most engrossing tactics battle systems I've ever seen.

+++ Everything about the battle system.
+++ The visuals, effects, music, and every other surface detail is nice and satisfying.
+++ How you build your mechs matters, and what direction you go with them is often a matter of taste.

= The game doesn't really have a strong visual identity. It looks like every other mech game, and the UI makes me think of Amplitude Studios and their Endless games, if anything.

- You can't victory lap a battle by watching its replay. It would be nice to see the action movie play out.
- The metagame and story are bland and repetitive. It's all just an excuse to do the tactical battles.
- Inventory management is a nightmare. One problem of many is that It needs more ways to sort your parts, such as by heat dissipation or weight.
- Crafting parts that are actually worth using is also a nightmare.
- The paint options for your mechs leave something to be desired...
--- The UI doesn't clearly communicate whether a melee attack will actually land. Imagine swinging a sword at someone just to bump into them, and you both fall over and explode.

Anyway, you should play it.

This game knows the vibe it wants to give off, and it does so with flying colors. Literally. If you like intentional jank you'll find it pretty charming.

Worst I can say about it is that it seems too easy, and reviews on the full game seem to agree. Might be harder if you didn't have so many equipment slots early on.

Finally I can relive my childhood of downloading sketchy games off the internet.

Love you, Zachtronics. Rest well.

Underrated way to teach children about animals and human experimentation.

If using the game for educational purposes, just be aware that the game does include some fictional creatures, such as horses.

Everyone loves to talk about how difficult this game is, but death is ultimately completely painless. Once you surrender your fear and embrace diving headfirst into the meatgrinder, Elden Ring becomes... easy.

It may be difficult to succeed, but it's easy to progress. That's why Elden Ring has done so well for itself. The beautiful environments don't hurt either.
