Elden Ring is fromsoft's most approachable game yet... Sorta, kinda. The game does away with the bottlenecking that plagued the other souls games, wherein a player will be stuck on a boss for like i dunno 300 years or something and not be able to progress, instead of that, Elden Ring allows for you to up and leave that fight and do something else, coming back when you're stronger. This is absolutely the best part of the game, along with this the game places a lot of confidence in its open world and... Woah! The first hours of this game were something else, stumbling into Caelid on accident was some of the most fun I've had with a game, open-world fits the game perfectly, as you can visit such large swaths of the game without even fighting your first boss it is absolutely, utterly unreal.

What's the problem? Rewards, kinda...
For my first playthrough, I went with samurai and pumped DEX and VGR. For the entire game I struggled to find something to adequately replace my equipment. The Uchigatana I started the game with was the best weapon I had hitting late-endgame. Even after getting a unique katana as an upgrade... It just didn't deal the same damage.
Armor was probably on me though. I stuck with the basic samurai armor until I hit endgame... Mostly because it looks cool.
To some, that might be great, you don't need to worry about equipment too much since you start with some very very good pieces right at the start. But I think the best part of the previous games was getting upgrades-- let me put it this way, in Dark Souls, at around 4 hours in you might be rocking completely different equipment than when you started, 24 hours in you're completely changed again and so on and so forth. You can certainly use the same equipment the whole game but it was built around you switching semi-often. In Elden Ring, melee characters will struggle to find variety in equipment. This complaint is nonexistant for magick based characters.

Magick makes the world go 'round in this game, its crazy how many sorceries and incantations you'll end up finding in it. I imagine glintstone pebble remains a backbone spell, but the sheer variety you *can* achieve dwarfs the melee fighters tenfold.

Once more, it's hard to articulate my thoughts with this game, I really enjoyed the early-midgame but loathed the endgame. I feel like this will echo with other players as well, where you'll be told the last 30-ish hours aren't as good as the first 30 or so. Because of this lacking consistency I cannot in good faith call this fromsoft's magnum opus. I would call it their best game to date though.

The optimization sucks really bad though

and im glad mages are the exact type of glass cannon murdermachines that i oh-so love
unless if its in pvp
and theyre wearing armor
then it sucks

It's a very hard sell, but if you decide to get into it: Rain World is going to be one of the most unique experiences you'll ever see in a video game.
