Absolutely stellar. Might even enjoy this more than Pseudoregalia in terms of combat and movement. Cannot state how excited I am for the full release!

Early Access Review
ATLYSS is a phenomenal game. Straight up. I personally am someone who isn't too fond of MMO's and the grinding they usually entail but I've had such a wonderful time playing ATLYSS with my friends at this point.

I had played the Itch demo a little while back and had a blast and this time around playing exclusively on my Steam Deck at this point. It runs FLAWLESSLY at 8w TDP which means not only is it enjoyable on the go but there's room to use a little less power while doing so! This however, does bring me to this games one large flaw at this point. There are, at present, no Steam cloud saves. Meaning that if you want to play this game on Steam Deck and PC you will have to manually transfer every single time. This is, admittedly, a little frustrating but I can't imagine this type of implementation is easy. If you can get past needing to manually transfer saves the experience on the go is absolutely worth it.

EDIT: IDR where but the dev said that Steam Cloud Saves are a high priority! I highly recommend this title!

This game is one of my favorites I've *ever* played and it's certainly my game of 2023. I highly recommend the game. It's late and I'm still working on 100% but god! Play! This! Game! It's some of the best time loop media around!

Alright to start this off, much like others I wish I could give this a mixed review.
Its worth noting I got this for free because I owned SUPERHOT

*THIS GAME IS BY NO MEANS AWFUL*

HOWEVER, it has a lot of issues involving gameplay, enemy design, and level design. Let's start from the top here.

THE NEGATIVES:
They stated that this game started off as DLC for SUPERHOT and that is *VERY* apparent. This game does not have a ton of content that pulls you in or makes you feel like this is a full game. *GAMEPLAY* This game tries a LOT of new things which I commend the devs for but, a lot of it does not work well together. Remember when I said that this feels like DLC? It has lots of randomness which, in a DLC setting, would be good for replayability HOWEVER they tried to make a full length game with LEVELS and SCENES. In order to beat a level you must beat a random assortment of SCENES while working with some other new stuff. This game has health now and depending on which CORE you choose (CORES are permanent abilities for use in LEVELS. Really only the CHARGE CORE is worth using because it allows you to charge at enemies and get one hit in to avoid damage) you will have either 2 health or 3 health. On top of these changes you also have HACKS. HACKS are randomly assigned in LEVELS after completing a SCENE, you get a choice between two *randomly generated* HACKS. This all sounds very good on paper however due to the randomness of SCENES wherein the SCENE you get, enemies, weapons, and enemy placement is all random. Why is that an issue? In SCENES you can get royally screwed over by enemy and mine positions, I have had mines (new things that explode bullets near you or when shot) spawn directly on top of me immediately taking one out of my two health leaving me to beat 9 more SCENES on one health unless I get lucky and get a heal HACK. This can lead to frustrating situations in which you are on the last SCENE of a LEVEL and lose to RNG you cannot control such as an enemy spawning behind you (because again that is ALSO random) and shooting you before you can do anything. Now before I mentioned this would be good as a DLC and not a full game. That's because by having all of this randomness and making health depletions lead to losing a LEVEL (and in turn losing all of your HACKS and starting at the first SCENE) they have artificially lengthened the game and as of this writing I am not done but I would have about half the hours if not for the random aspects. Combat has been altered and while 99% of the changes are good, weapons need to reload faster to work well and standard punch has virtually no range now. On top of all this is the enemy designs. We have 4 types; Regular enemies, enemies with only one spot of vulnerability, enemies that launch bullets upon death, and worst of all an enemy that randomly spawns in later levels that cannot be killed and uses one of the CORES that's available to you. The last enemy forces you to run away while also trying to kill all of the other enemies to finish the level. This makes combat harder and makes the whole "time only moves when you do" feel undermined. Finally the level design. There are I think 10 different SCENES which are randomly unlocked and you only get those 10 SCENES for the ENTIRE GAME. On top of this you have the randomly spawned enemies and mines within these same SCENES. It gets very old, very fast. On top of that there is seemingly no way to tell if you've killed enough enemies to progress to the next SCENE. This all together makes for a very frustrating experience with this game. It's not all negative though!

THE POSITIVES
As stated briefly above the CHARGE CORE is obscenely fun (if you get good enemy placement that is) and you just get to wail on these guys. If you throw a gun and then charge an enemy they will (usually) die on the charge and then you can take their weapon and keep it going. There are some other, smaller combat tweaks such as; screwdrivers, pens, pencils, forks, and butter knives now kill enemies with a headshot! They added in a dagger which, when thrown, will kill an enemy on hit and it's VERY fast. Items like Records, CDs, Floppy Disks, and Playing Cards all kill if you land a hit with them! Some of the HACKS make movement and fights enjoyable as hell such as bullets ricocheting and CHARGES refilling after getting a kill meaning you can become a blur of death and destruction.

Overall I think if you took the positives and made the game like OG SUPERHOT with unique consistent level design and the CHARGE CORE being a regular ability at the start and maybe two equipable HACKS (with the second slot being unlocked maybe halfway through the game) it would be a virtually perfect game. I look forward to the next entry maybe taking this direction,

TL;DR
This game includes waaaaay too much randomness and undermines its own gimmick while also putting you in unfair positions that will kill you. It does a lot of things right but it does a lot more wrong. I would give it a shot if you got it for free and if you intend to buy it just know it is not the game SUPERHOT was.
