The M4 is a carbine, and a variant of the M16A2. The M4 was developed in the mid 80's, and its design in this game would be a historical innacuracy-The opposite of what the devs wanted. Anyways, the CAR-15 just means a colt made AR-15

and it still kinda counts as a variant of the m16

hmm, but i've seen CAR-15s that looks like an m4 kind of style.

The only real difference between a CAR-15 and an original M16 is the barrel length is a few inches shorter, in fact the weapon in game is probably a CAR-15, as it was used in the military under the name M16A1
