Early Access Review
Gets frequent updates. Has a lot of "powerful" paid options, but because there's absolutely no PvP content as of the date of the review, most of it feels optional. AutoLoot is basically the "Full Game" and feels required, I recommend it once you've played enough to know you like it.

If you have bad impulse control, the monetization can be a little rough to ignore, but it's a fantastic mostly-idle game all around.

Ripout has solid foundations, it has interesting concepts, but it executes on them poorly. Everything was functional, the progression seems unique, and I do like the concept of having to drop my primary weapon for utility or support options, but a lot of the stuff built around all of that just didn't lift it up high enough to stick around.

Regarding the horror tag, it's not quite descriptive. There are elements of body horror, I guess, but the game itself doesn't scare or horrify me. It hasn't left me feeling paranoid. A lot of bad horror doesn't leave quiet time to let you feel that paranoia or build tension. Ripout has it, but in the wrong spot. The quiet time is spent feeling safe, rather than on edge. When I walk into a room, I know there are enemies. I also know that once those enemies are dead, the room will be pretty much safe, until I complete an objective. Predictability nullifies the potential for scares. The game needs to break my trust more often, to let me think it's safe, and be tricking me into letting my guard down. That's what it needs to effectively be horror.

I found it particularly annoying when I would give up my primary weapon to disarm an enemy, only to have it immediately rearmed by what felt like RNG. It definitely seems like you can have your pet "rip out" (see? name) the enemy's armaments, but then they can just, with no cooldown or penalty, pick up a new weapon (or utility item) with no delay.

Perhaps I haven't given it long enough to get to that point, but I gave it an hour with a friend (which usually helps) and found it very uncompelling, but even on sale, I don't see the value here yet. I may come back and check on this game here and there, it might just be a diamond in the rough. Maybe it'll scratch itches for others that it missed for me.

I absolutely love Heroes of Hammerwatch and HoH2 is just an improvement on it. If you've played the prequel, this game makes improvements over it. I recommend it highly for those who enjoyed the original HoH.

As for others, I recommend giving it a good try. I may not be a developer, but the way I see it, if you buy the game with the intent to refund it at 1.75 hours played, and that window convinces you to not refund it? That's a sale made of someone who wouldn't have otherwise bought the game. Maybe I'll get in trouble for "encouraging refund abuse" but I think that's a reductive approach.

Helldivers 2 is perhaps the best example of a live service game done right there ever was. The developers are responsive and considerate to their community. You can really feel the love put into the game. Not every game is for everyone, but if ANYTHING about Helldivers 2 intrigues you, I couldn't recommend it any higher. This is my game of the decade

Capcom added DRM to this game that made it unplayable on Linux and Steam deck. I can no longer play with one of my friends.

Maybe in a couple weeks I can change this review, but the servers have been up for about 3 hours since launch. When NA was sleeping and EU was working. Now that they're trying to play, nobody can even get into a lobby. Always online is a great way to shoot yourself in the foot. Avoid this until they fix the servers or add offline.

There's so much wrong with this game. The worst part about it, is that it's fun. If it wasn't, I'd have played maybe ten hours and dropped it. As it stands, I want to keep playing, and all the bugs and problems make it a slog. If you have high tolerance for bugs and glitches, you'll overall enjoy your time here. If not? Stay away.

Update! The game is still buggy on the best of days. I've been enjoying the free DMZ mode more than the multiplayer I spend eighty (Canadian) dollars on. Try that out.

BPM found out that rhythm-based FPS games were viable for a small but serviceable niche. This game builds on what BPM did so insanely well. In brief, this is everything I wanted this game to be.

I have some questions that might help you figure out if you should buy:
Did or do you enjoy Doom or Quake, or the modern Doom franchise?
Do you enjoy metal as a music genre?
Do you like rhythm games?

If you answered yes to all three, definitely pick this one up. If you only said no to one of the three, it might still be worth picking up. Hell, there's a demo available. If you're still not completely sure, the game so quickly jumps into the experience that I'm 100% sure you'll know if you enjoy the game within an hour and a half. Set a timer and have some fun.

I got reminded how good a game this is by something mentioned in about every recent review. But if you're interested in the game, it's a banger.
