I have spent a little over 2,000 hours playing this game. The game is pretty fun for the first 200 hours or so assuming you have friends, buy all the DLC for like 200 bucks or something, stay away from pvp, and get into the raids and stuff. However, past that, this game isn't very fun to me at all. I have always felt like the game was just about to be really good, and it's why I played it for so long. The sad fact is the day that destiny 2 was good again never really came. Every dlc is major disappointment after major disappointment in the endgame. The devs release a "this week at bungie" article every thursday discussing how they intend to improve the game. Literally all this game needs is some good end game grind with super powerful weapons or something, making everything accessible to everyone is fun if you're a 40 year old dad who plays for 2 hours a week, but for the people who REALLY want to get into the game (like mmo players, which destiny says they want to cater to more) this game isn't really replayable and the gameplay loop is literally logging in once a week and doing chores. Eventually I had to accept that this game would never have the endgame grind I wanted it to have, and stopped playing it to move on to games that cater to that audience more. If you haven't played the raids in this game (and have 5 friends who also want to do raids), I reccommend you play this game. However, if you're looking for a new 'main game' that you can play for 4+ hours everyday for months, though it might seem like it at first, this is not that game.

The pvp is some of the worst in any game I've played. The game is not built for competitive pvp but somehow fell into the classic triple-A game trap of trying to have an extremely competitive pvp league. Plus, the best weapons for other parts of the game are locked behind competitive pvp. Pvp is literally miserable, and forcing people to play it for the best loot in other game modes is (frankly) extremely stupid. If you didn't need to play pvp to have the best pve weapons, this game would be a lot better.

The power grind (aka make your power number get higher so you can go do higher power things) is not fun and hasn't been fun for over three years. No meaningful changes have been made to it, either, except for making it so if you have a friend that grinds to high power in your team, you get to use their power. The entire game still directs you towards the power grind, however. Power either needs to go away, or some extremely meaningful changes need to be made in order to make the grind fun again.

The live service model that this game adopted in order to increase player retention and make people look at the microtransactions page more is destroying the game. The game used to please regular players and non-hardcore players alike by releasing huge amounts of content about once a year, and letting everyone work through the content at their own pace. Now, the game releases extremely insignificant amounts of content once every tuesday that ends up adding up to be more content, but feels like less. This is because logging in and doing the same crap every single week + one new mission simply isn't meaningful or fun, except for people that play for three minutes a day.

I could go on and on, but in the end, if they want to go in the direction of other live service games like halo infinite or whatever, they should full send it that direction. If they want to go my preferred route of MMO shooter, they should go in that direction. If they want to make a pvp shooter, they should go that direction. The issue is that the game is trying to please everyone at once, and ends up with a half-baked product in every department. Such a major shift will never happen to this game because they are making too much money as is, which is why this game will always be 'just fine'. Instead of playing a game thats mid at everything, go play a game that's great at one thing, and spend your time doing something better (take it from someone with 2k hours in this game) as opposed to a game that gets people hyped up and then releases half-baked product after half-baked product.
