Extremely hard to get into and lacking in player direction, but if you got a freind whos played before to get you into it it can help alot with adapting to the brutal difficulty of surviving the islands inhabitants.

DOOM is the complete and total opposite of most modern shooters.

There is no hand holding, no NPC's fighting your battles for you and no using AC-130's to bomb what could be innocent farmers.

Combat is fast paced and fair, if you die its because you ether blew yourself up or you did not dodge enough. The Glory kill system proves takedown animations can be good since they are so quick. The campagin is littered with bonus secrets to find, upgrades and hidden doomguy action figures.

The multiplayer is quite excellent providing a wide variety of modes, powerups and fun weapons (and even demonic possesion).

NOTE: If you think you can play the multiplayer like COD or battlefield you will die, you will die a lot and then come here and say "Durr Bad multiplayer 2/10" this game PUNISHES you for trying to play liek other shooters. There is no regenerating health, the usual strat of slowing down to regen health and hiding away is instead replaced by even MORE frantic movement to pickup as many hp and armor powerups as possible.

cba to keep going, its great and its soundtrack is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ metal as ♥♥♥♥.

Collectionist Review!

(I will go straight into the collection aspect of this game and then the game as a whole.)

Terraria is possibly the best game out there when it comes to Treasure Hunting for items with actual unique properties and Gameplay mechanics. While many games can claim to have special loot to find, more often than not it is usually just a rare armor or weapon with different stats to the regular trash or at best a special looking skin, but in Terraria... the quest for REAL treasure is realised!

For a start every boss in the game drops a fairly decent table of unique loot such as cosmetics, gear, trophies and some items are just interesting artifacts with unique abilities! You can also get drops form invasions as well as regular and rare mob spawns.

In this game you can collect...

1. Accessories - trinkets with a wide range of abilities from flying carpets to werewolf charms! Many of which can be combined!

2. Pets and Light Pets - pets are cosmetic followers which can be dyed, Light pets are pets that also provide light along with other small bonuses such as making nearby sources of treasure glow.

3. Mounts - Creatures and or vehicles than can give the player various different ways of getting around such as hopping mounts, flying mounts, fast mounts and even a mining mount!

4. Truly unique Gear - while there are simple tier weapons in this game, there are also many many weapons with special properties and attack styles all their own, as well as many hard to obtain weapons with novilty gimics such as a faithful re-creation of megamans blaster! And as for armor there is less special varients than there is for weaponry, but there are still many sets that can give very special bonuses when all collected, such as being able to summon a tornado after getting the full forbidden armor set!

5. Trophies - Every boss and some invasion armies drop trophy items to collect such as a black flag for beating the priate invasion

6. Statues - There is a wide variety of statues to collect, almsot all of which are cosmetic with some having the ability to spawn enemies or items.

7. Dyes - There are many dyes to customise your characters clothing from the simple colours to being literally on fire and looking like ghost rider.

8. Cosmetics - there are many rare cosmetics to collect from vendors, bosses, invasions and sometimes just found randomly from mob drops, a good example is Ithe hat of Indiana Jones dropped by special rare zombies only found in the jungle.

9. Fish - A part of this game that can easily be overlooked is the fishing, while not in anyway complicated there is a huge amount of treasure to be gained from fishing as well as a massive variety of different species of fish to collect as well!

10. Critters - All non hostile species can be captured and put into glass enclosures or jars if they are bugs, there are even a small group of gold versions of regular creatures to catch, so keep an eye out and your net handy...

11. NPC's - The NPC's in this game in a strange way are also collectibles! Each one requires that a certian criteria be filled and an empty house awaits them. All of which are mostly vendors with some havign bonus powers like healing and defensive buffs.

12. Other - Includes teleportation mirrors and phones, a Blink scepter, a HUGE variety of grappling hooks some with special properties and probably a hell of a lot more!

The best thing about all this? Any item can be displayed! Manaquins to wear armor and cosmetics and item and weapon racks to display anything else, and because this IS a building game too you could make the most detailed collection ever or even a museum if you wanted too! The two bad things I have say about this games collecting is some items can be VARY rare and require a lot of grinding and that there is no collection journal which REALLY would have made this a collectors wet dream.

Game Review

The game starts off very slow with you having to grind for an hour or two to get materials to make decent equipment, this game fools you in the beginning into thinking that its little more than a 2D minecraft, however that all changes when the first boss appears...

Combat and General Gameplay

For in reality the game is actually an action adventure platformer with a heavy emphasis on Combat with elements of crafting and building. The combat is fast placed and satisfying, when you die you don't feel like it was unfair or against you, you know that if you die its simply your fault and its up to you to learn the bosses patterns and behaviours and what is best to counter them, some boss fights can even benifet greatly from you building a specialised arena to fight them in that takes advantage of their movement patterns, in fact you could even say that if you dedicate enough time you can tackle pretty much any bossfight in this game with certian structures!

As well as bossfights there are also special invasions that require you to ether fend off enemy forces until the time of day/night changes or you have exhausted the enemies numbers. There are also some special events that can be triggered in-game where you try to defeat as many waves as possible to get the highest score before the enemies retreat.

The actual combat has many approaches, though most can be broken down into...

1. Melee - Swords, spears, yo-yo's (don't ask) etc.

1. Ranged - Guns, Bows, Throwable Weapons.

1. Magic - many kinds of attacks, too may to mention.

1. Summoning - summoning familiers to fight for you, though its best to use this intandem with other styles of combat.

Unfortunately... there are no tutorials in the game or any specific objective given, the actual objective of the first half is to get to hell and fight the boss there ot activate the harder world with enchanced loot and enemies and more bosses, but you are never told that, you get only hints from the guide npc! As long as you have the internet to consult wiki thought its not a problem, but it would have been nicer if there was a more organic way the game coudl direct you to these objectives... (not to say you can't find them on your own, just initially it might make people think that there are no objectives in the game)

Presentation

As for the look of the game? Timeless. I cannot imagine this game ever looking dated, it takes retro pixel games and makes modern updates with the resolution, lighting and particle effects to create a very visually pleasing mosaic on your screen! Its a shame that the resolution is capped at 1080p, however with this being a pixel game this actually makes no difference to how it looks and instead just affects how much of the game you can see on your screen at one time, Some may even wish to turn their resolution down to 720 as at 1080 on smaller screens the character can be very small.

The UI is a bit flat and bland but does the job fine, tools have been added to auto sort inventories and even quickly add items from your inventory to chest containing the same items nearby making item sorting a breeze!

Building

Lastly is the crafting/ building elements of the game. The building is very simple and easy to do, the game acts as a square grid and you place things on that grid eventually building 2D structures, more often than not your concern with building is simply going to be gathering the resources to finish what you have planned. However when it comes to the crafting the game suffers from that same old lack of information, to make pretty much anything in this game you need to look up the wiki, it would have been far better if they made blueprints a lootable item in this game so that you are always finding recipies in this game on how to make stuff in an organic way.

The Verdict

Overall, Terraria is like an overflowing treasue chest of Content, well worth it at full price!

Exact Same as Normal version except some decent graphical improvements and a 64bit exe allowing for much better performance and memory management.

Actually a good fun game despite the mountian of joke reviews that really don't do it justice.

Its a mix of Bejeweled style puzzle solving alongside an easy dating sim that makes for a really fun casual game, obviously aimed more toward pervy anime fans of course.

The games strengths lie in its wirting and delivery with good voice acting alongside some honestly funny dialouge and comedy, though of course its pretty low brow.

The game has quite a few unlockables in the way of Sexy Pics for each of the girls (with a patch from the devs can be un-censored) MANY different reusable powerups for the minigames and apperance customization options for the girls.

Also the sound track goes perfectly with the up-beat carefree nature of the game, its not at all a game designed to make you relaxed like flower or flow of course but its a very laid back chilled experience.

As for negatives I only have a couple specific things to say...

1. There are a few achievements that require meeting a certian criteria across different saves, to 100% this game would be a tad to long to the point that it would become a grind and in some instances you would be at the mercy of RNG and if you fail once you would need to start a whole new save to try for that perfect run achiv again.

2. The Catgirl, if you actually bother to look into her information turns out to actually be only 13 years old in human years... Why the devs could not have just changed this to 18 (or at LEAST 16) for western release is beyond me.

So to summerise overall Its a great game to just forget all about stress and grinding other larger games so you can just have a laugh, to all the reviews saying that its just hentai are untrue.

This will be a very in-depth review so be prepped to be reading for a few minuites.

Story:

First thing I will start on is the story, the story is fairly good bringing together many iconic heros and enemies in a way that makes sense, there are quite a few laugh of loud moments with the usual lego parody and the voice acting is not bad.

Also, there are a bunch of semi hidden missions called "deadpool missions" that are given a bit of backstory by deadpool, each mission can be about things unrelated to story, from cleanup after a hero fight, to a kickass party at starks place, these extra missions are worth doing as they can unlock new characters, gold bricks and are the only way that I know of obtaining red bricks.

Note that to play these deadpool missions you will have to have the proper amount of gold bricks beforehand, you do not pay bricks, you simply must have your amount past a threshold. i.e A mission may require you to have gotten to 50/300 gold bricks before your allowed to play.
Characters:

The Character roster is the most impressive to date! A crazy amount that is made even better by the fact that each characters different skins count as different costumes and not different characters, by thta I mean that in prev lego games all the different Iron man suits would have counted as 6 different characters, while in this he still jsut counts as 1 character but with 6 different versions. However I think the system for selecting alternate costumes is ineficent, the characters different costumes/look are constantly rotaiting every second so you may be required to wait a few seconds to select a certian costume.

Also, the BIGGEST reason I think lego marvels character roster is the most impressive to date is thta for the most part, all the different characters are ACTUALLY different. Ofc some heros abilites are more unquie and recognizable that others, like thors hammer, sandmans heavy changeing atatcks or spidermans web slinging. They have even included characters that are useless gameplay wise just for backstory like mary jane and others.

However, when you have a game liek this some heros are OBJECTIVLY going to be better than others, example in story missions if you have a big fig hero you will ALWAYS play them in fights because they just tear everything apart and other heros in that same mission will only be played for utility purposes. And some heros have REALLY contrived and dumb utilities that have cleary been put there so that they are useful in some way, in a few story missions your forced to play logan so they he can use "claw switches" switches than need blades to use... wat.

Free Roam Hub:

Moving on, the free roam hub is extremely impressive and is one of the best free roam areas I have even played in a superhero game, not so much for detai lor things to do but just the general feel, when you fly you feel that you are going very fast, even more so that the superman returns game from a few years ago.

A HUGE improvement in lego marvel from the past games is that lego just works somuch better in this setting, lego against the dark dreary colours of middle earth of the dank city of gotham clashed heavily with the light hearted cherry vibe of lego, however within the bright artifical city of new york the natural fun feeling of lego is... kept intact?

Something strange is that even with the ability to fly at ???mph (fast) you still have a garage of cars and aircraft to collect to use... there is literally no reason to use these except for a few races to get gold bricks that require you to use a certian vehicle. I'm not saying this is bad though, while it is useless its a nice detail that adds more frills and another layer for us collectors.

An improvement upon past lego games is that you no longer need to beat the game to get access to all characters while in free roam, instead you can go to a vehicle call point and switch character from their, then past that point you can swtich characters by holding Y (if on controller) though one you beat game you don't need to use vehicle point once to get instant character select, you have it all the time. However, it still has the prob that there are sections in the free roam hub that require a certian character you won't unlock until near the end of the game, so bum rushing missions is still advised.

There are many side quests with some decent variety, some require you to fight off an ambush, chace a crook, find an item, escort someonem take control of someone etc. These usually reward you with gold bricks for unlocking special deadpool missions.

Gameplay:

The gameplay has changed a little in places, most notible is that the combat is way better than prev lego games, its still too simple I think but way better than before. If you defeat enemies quickly in sucsesion then it builds up combo to a max of 10, the higher the combo the more studs you get from beating enemies. (yes, eating enemies now give you studs :D a very good mechanic imo)

When attacking enemies with melee there is a chance that your character will pull of special finishers, quite a lot of characters seem to have a few, you will however get to a point where you will be liek "meh, seen it before, jsut kill him already" however the first few times you see spiderman grab a guy with his web and slam him of the ground like a mallet will make you say "thats pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sweet"

The combat is split mainly into these attacks...

Ranged projectiles - explosive, energy, magic, bow, web, bullet (all pretty much act the same)
Laser - eletric, magic, fire (hold down to aim a constant laser of dmg)
melee - simple melee, some characters have different stances/fighting styles
melee weaponry - most melee users also have the ability to thorw their weapon and have it come back like a bommerang
and then there are a few special attacks that are hero specificm like hulk clap, ironman unibeam etc.

There are multiple instances where certina powers will be needed to progress in certian areas, I won't list them all as it would take too long, like I said earlier some are kinda contrived like claw switches and sheild switches, others make sense like grates and sneaking past cameras.

Though for once there are moments that you actually look forword too! There are points hwere sandman or mr fantastic will have to morph into a certian shape to get past a point and its always a different thing thta happens, or hacking a point with a smart character starts a (easy) minigame thats usually allways different.

There arestill many times where you will be required to build things to get things done, soemtimes this can be kinda dumb, where you have to build handles onto an object so a big fig can hold it, and some are really cool like ironman building a water cannon out of water tower that you jump into and use as a weapon.

Boss fights are... okay, better than normal lego games. There are still those that require you to do the same tihng multiple times and are more complicated than they need to be, but there are some decent ones liek the final boss, green goblin midway, sandman at start etc.

Controls: The controls are fine, controller support is nice and the character select has dropped that awful wheel LOTR had, also there is a way of quick changing to certian character using the front tirggers (on controller).

Flight controls are fine I found, though could be better as I sometimes found myself wanting to make a tight turn and would instead fly forword a little then turn around and cover way too much ground.

Rushed Verdict:

I must stop here so I will hurry, canisters arent worth collecting as all it gives is short crappy comics of story cutsenes, game needs bios to explain characters we might not know.

Though easily best lego game made, not perfect by any stretch, but shows huge improvements upon previous lego games with a large amount of content to keep you playing intesely for hours upon hours.

There is pretty much no reason to buy this, it adds no new abilites and is just reskins of already included heros with 2 new heros that control exactly like characters in the base game.

The only hero of value in this pack is Dark Phoenix because she looks cool + she DOES have an ability base game phoenix does not, base game phoenix has a 6th sense type ability whilest dark phoenix does not, but instead can create a sheild aroudn herself WHILE using laser, which means you can laser without taking dmg.'

Overall, buy on sale or not at all.

It has alot of good stuff but... It has too many problems that ruin the good things about it :(

Good things are it has a large open world to explore in-between missions, but I don't like that you need to beat the campagin to be allowed to use any character in-between the missions, it makes it so you pretty much should jsut bum-rush all the missions so that you can REALLY have true freedom in the open world.

The cast of characters is okay, im not a fan off it having say 3 costumes for certian characters like arigon, frodo etc. and it counting as 3 seperate characters, though for actual number of characters that are unqie in their abilites their is not too much (check lego marvel for chracters with a wide variety of abilites) However Lego LOTR has a pretty infuriating chracter select method, after you beat the main campagin the main fellowship members are set as your PERMENANT quick select characters and if you want to switch to ANYONE cool like golum, saroun, ghost king etc. you have to g to choose other character option, then hcoose from large list. If that was not bad enough, if you get to an area that requires you to have a certian characters ability to get by (i.e gimlis boudler smash) when you switch to that character, if you try to go back to your cool character they have been replaced by the default fellowship character!

Its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you should be able to customize the character wheel to have any 8 characters you want ready whenever.

The mithril and treasure item system is really cool! Being able to collect a huge amount of items that augment your abilites of just look cool or grant entirly special abilites is awesome, but same as the character select its a total chore to do. Say you find a rope section but you can't be bothered switching to sam (the rope bearer) to get past it? No problem, if you have a mithril rope and your in free play mode you can just summon it out your trove and use that with any character, HOWEVER, your items are NOT saved to characters AND if you pull out another mithril item that is a tool/weapon it will overide your current item.

So even if you have 6 empty slots, bring out the mithril trowl and now have 5 empty slots you will NEVER get to equip another thing in them, your trowl will jsut disappear.

So basiclly if you had hoped to ever create a badass custom character with aragons sword, then give him all the tools and special armour peices to have all ablites you get to EAT ♥♥♥♥. Because the best you can do is give him the armour, one tool, but then, if you switch to someone else, yo uwill have to re-summon them AND re equip all the items. Which is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible desgin. (oh and yh, in frodos house you can make custom characters)

The game incorpirates a side quest system, however they ALL seem to be fetch quests, though they do net you access to more treasures since whatever you fetch you get a copy of or your trove which is good.

actual story is a highly watered down version of LOTR, giving you most of the important stuff to know whats going on, though some things are completely missed like that idiot king/mayor in gondar who is included as a buyable character even though you literally NEVER see him in the campagin.

So the game is decent, the large open world is overwhelming and the sheer armount of unlockables is like a wet dream for digital hoarders such as myself, however its almost completely ruined by the fact that any awesome stuff you find or characters you unlock take far too long to switch too and equpping them is only temporary. To the point it actually does ruin the game. Also most fights/bosses can be very repetative, requiring you to do the exact same action multipel times OR situations where you should win without hassle, i.e hitting golum taking a heart, but hitting him again does no dmg becaused he is scripted to jump back onto cliff and keep throwing ♥♥♥♥ at you until you do the exact same repatative task for bringing him down.

Also I need to mention the controls are terrible, I mean, a lego game with no controller support? Really? and the default keyboard controls are actual dirt, I rebinded them imedtially.

Overall, Its maybe worth it if you are gunning to play all the lego games or are a big fan of the series, but I would highly recommend lego Marvel over this game.

Lego Lord of the Rings has a massive good amount of content that is ruined by the way its accessed/handled... Its a shame, I really found myself wanting to like it :(
