A bit of an oddball amongst all the negative reviews here but here we are...

I did enjoy Timelines. A lot even. I am redoing it for the 6th or 7th time now. Some of the scenarios I even wish were longer or had more to do inside.

But... AI...
The damn decision to use AI to generate the voicelines is beyond me. It sounds awful. Both for dialogue, stations as well as sector and ship name.


If it weren't for this decision, which has also been made for newer DLCs and free update content, indicating a direction Egosoft is heading in, I'd recommend it.

My last review was at approximately 800 hours and since then, the game has changed quite substantially.

I will first say, I really do not like the direction Egosoft is going since the release of Timelines. The voice acting already hasn't been the best in the X-Series, but it was certainly the best it has been with the release of Tides of Avarice and Kingdom End. And now? Now Voicelines are AI-Generated. Everything from dialogue to station and sector names is now AI generated. Why?
The old betty-voice that was used up to 6.0 was perfectly fine. Now we have different voices for different stations, people and what not.

Also, selling mini DLCs doesn't sit right with me personally. The Hyperion DLC is ~7€ for what? 1 Ship, one negligible storyline and one sector. Compared to what we got for 15€ this is nothing.
The reviews of said DLC also show it. Many positive reviews just included "I bought this to support the devs, but the actual DLC isn't that good"

Last but not least, the 7.5 Update, the big flight model change...
I get that X's flight model never was the best for people but changing the very base of a space game 7 years after release? Whose idea was this?

All of the negative points aside, I still very much enjoy the game. And I am not referring to a heavily modded version of it, but instead purely vanilla, in many cases even without DLC. Even after almost 2000 hours.

But I will not recommend it, based on all the negative points mentioned.
