I am gonna start off by saying that going into this game and thinking of it as a sequal to No More Room In Hell is probably not the way to go about it.

But honestly, I think this has the potential to be one of the best zombie games of all time.

The game runs REALLY well compared to most other UE5 games, I struggle to run most other UE5 games on higher settings with my setup but this game for the most part runs REALLY well on high settings which is commendable. As other games I have played recently like Metal Gear Solid Delta and Borderlands 4 have been a nightmare with their performances and they aren't even early access titles like NMRIH2 is.

It has amazing feel to the weapons, lower calibre ammo guns like pistols and such leave zombies with parts of them missing, shotguns leave holes in zombies and can straight up blow limbs off of zombies.

The melee can be a bit buggy, sometimes a zombie will hit you when they are already in hit recovery from being swung at, but it feels good, the ragdolls from heavy blunt weapons feels very satisfying and removing legs with a sharp weapon feels good.

Initally I was very sceptical about the whole losing perks and permadeath but tbh I like it a lot, it reminds me of Zombi where when you die you have to play as someone else and I actually really like it. It also adds some tension to the match as you never know if this might be your final match with this character or not and I have had some really intense matches where I didnt think I would make it out but I managed to pull through.

I also dig the objectives, all the minigames and little interactions you do to progress are so much more fun than I expected and I love the fact that the map is massive and has all the side objectives that you can do for extra loot.

I also think the atmosphere is really spot on tbh, the zombies really terrified me the first couple of matches I played, and they still kinda do when its a huge horde of them. I imagine as I get better and better at this game that the feeling will go but its still nice to actually feel scared of zombies again.

Speaking of the zombies.. I really like their designs, they look like they could have been real people and as the lore states the outbreak was very recent so it makes sense that they arent decayed and rotting yet, my only gripe is that they kinda lack variety but I think I read in the roadmap that they are planning to add more variety and more types of zombies so I'm not too worried about that. (Also why does everyone want child zombies back? Do you guys realise that if they did that it could prevent sales of the game in some countries or in the very least cause a lot of problems with ratings? Why would they risk that? Take off your nostalgia shades for one minute and think, please.)

Okay, let's talk about some things that I DONT like

The zombies spawns.. oh boy. I know this game is intended for 8 people lobbies but being a 2-3 man party (I'll get into why after I talk about zombies spawns) it can feel nearly impossible to do some of the objectives without lots of ammo or radios to distract the zombies. They either need to make the zombie spawns a little less obnoxious or they need to make the zombie amount/aggression play into how many players there are. It feels a bit ridiculous sometimes.

Now onto why I play 2-3 man lobbies. As an Australian, with how little players play this game it is pretty much impossible to find a match. I don't blame the game for this, but it definitely makes it a lot harder to play and there are a few objectives that just feel way too hard with only 2-3 people and thats on the easier difficulties.

Another problem I have is the short ass revive timer, that needs to be extended by a fair bit. I was next to my friend when he went down and a horde was around him, I was unable to save him in the very short amount of time you get to save your allies. That feels horrible. I know there is a perk that gives you longer but a perk shouldn't be a bandaid fix to a problem that exists especially when its a permadeath game.

All and all I think that this game has a lot of potential and I really hope and wish that people will give it a bit more of a chance. It would be nice to be able to play public lobbies one day.

Also, before any of you say I just dont get it and clearly never played the original, feel free to check my hours. I played it for almost 400 hours.

I can see that this game has so much potential but also find it so funny that people cannot agree on things in their reviews. Half of reviews criticise the gore and the atmosphere being gone while others praise it saying the gore and atmosphere is at its peak for the series (it is by the way).

I believe a big problem people are having with KF3 is that they can't stop seeing with the rose-tinted glasses for the previous 2 titles.

When Killing Floor first started, it was VERY bare-bones and was nothing more than a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, and then was turned into its own thing. It doesn't play well these days, its aged like milk left out on the kitchen counter for 5 years. Was it a good game when it came out? Yes. But it's not now.

Now Killing Floor 2 however.. is a bit different. Killing Floor 2 released and was just as much if not more of a mess than KF3 is now. XP gains were horrible, leveling your perks did pretty much nothing as the stat increases were pretty minimal for some classes but at least the guns and dismemberment felt good. Fast forward to now, the perk system is outdated and very limiting, some of the perks needed buffs they never got so everyone runs the same builds and 75% of guns are locked behind a paywall. I will never understand why people are acting like KF2 was SOO amazing when it too had and still has so many flaws and imperfections. But, oh well. I should talk about KF3.

Killing Floor 3 has done a lot of good things but a lot of wrong too. Let's list the positives:

The perk system is so much more better, there are 3 perk trees now based on passive skills, your classes grenade and your class ability. I could see most people having even slightly different builds now and that makes me super happy.

The gore/dismember system, atmosphere and graphics are on point. When you enter zed-time, watching the zed's head explode in very high detail is very VERY satisfying. Some zeds can still come at you with their legs or arms blown off now too which is super cool and it caught me off guard the first time it happened. The maps while they are a little boring, if you make sure your gamma is on the right setting (which I think people are struggling with) the maps are still dark and gritty like the previous games and the map design is better than previous games.

The weapon variety is pretty good and modding weapons is a VERY welcome change. I have been enjoying gathering mats so I can make the guns be how I want them to be.

The mobility changes are VERY amazing, you can dodge, sprint and reload, mantle, vault and slide and it all feels VERY responsive and snappy. A much welcome addition.

Zed AI is a lot smarter, they try to cut you off, surround you and they have a lot more moves that they didnt have in the previous titles. Awesome stuff.

Let's get to the negatives that seriously need to be addressed:

The guns weight and feel. As a person who has played countless shooters all from CoD to Escape from Tarkov, I do think this is one of the worst feeling games in terms of its gunplay, you feel like you are shooting dart guns and Fleshpounds and Scrakes really don't have much of a reaction to being shot. Bit of a disappointment really but its not the end of the world for me.

The voice acting. A big thing that I always liked about KF1 and 2 that I can understand people missing is that the voice lines are rather boring now and that they sound a bit dry. It's kind of a shame, but again. I listen to music on YouTube most of the time so its not the worst thing ever.

The performace. I know that my PC isnt considered all that great anymore by today's standards, but my game crashed 5 times in the space of 4 hours. I also was only pulling 45fps but the devs have stated that they are working on this, so im confident that it will be resolved eventually.

The specialist and perk trees being linked together. For some reason they decided to take a Black Ops 3 multilayer approach and locked perks to playing specific characters. This was a horrible change but they have it as a high priority to change this as soon as they possibly can, so for now its alright.

Bosses being bullet sponges. Now here me out, I was playing on Hard difficulty with my friend. He was a level 7 Medic and I was a level 7 Commando. The rest of the game had been kinda difficult because of early scrake spawns but we got through fine.. then we got to the bosses, and ooohhh boy me and m6 friend were trying to kill them for a solid 5 minutes before my friend died, I then myself looped the bosses around for a solid 10 minutes slowly wittling their health down before I managed to kill one. But it took all 1000 of the best commando gun's ammo, 400 more from resupplying from a pod mid-round and almost a full resupply from my ammo bag. That's a bit ridiculous, especially when its the best gun the commando has with me using my drone as soon as it was off cooldown. And yes, you could say that "oh but your friend was dead and without his damage that's why it took so long" well I hate to burst your bubble but medic doesnt do all that much damage, they are meant to heal. So it wouldn't have been much different and I also did also have a second gun but the gun wasn't doing any damage like at all. What im trying to say is that the bosses need to be tuned and have more interesting mechanics to compensate.

All up though, I think KF3 is VERY fun, especially with friends and I think it will be a very good game when the updates come out.

I wish I could review this game as a midpoint between recommended and not recommended.

Pros:
- Maps are very well made and very well polished, they are very fun to explore, learn and to interact with.
- AI for the various enemies seems much better, they notice you much easier and this is good. It was very easy to juke them in the beta with very simple means, making them more of a threat makes it feel more like Outlast.
- Objectives are clear on what to do and are fun to do. I have not had a single objective that I felt was terrible yet.
- Theme of Outlast hits really well, they really nailed it while making it an online co-op experience.
- The game is actually difficult now. In the beta, it was rather easy to play on the hardest difficulty that the game would let you play on and still find it really easy. I was very afraid the game would be boringly easy and I am glad that is not the case.
- I love the cosmetics and being able to fully customise your room, it is cool to see what people can come up with in terms of decorations and how they make their characters look.

Cons:
- For some reason they decided to ditch difficulties for a grading system, at first this seems fine and like a good idea, but I have had matches where I have done most of the objectives myself, not been hit much and have done most of the work, only to get downed and executed almost immediately after downing. I would be fine with this as it means your team has to act fast and save you which adds to the tension. But if your team decides to leave you dead, you lose ALL of the hard work you have put in. This isn't okay when some matches go for 20+ minutes. Horrible game design choice here. I didn't play a really hard match for ages just to get nothing.
- The netcode compared to the beta is so much worse. I don't know if its because I'm Australian and there are no servers near me or if its peer to peer, however the game handles networking very poorly. I was rubber-banding like crazy, and my friend would tell me that I am getting hit from really long distances away and would also have the same happen to him. (we are both Australian before anyone asks, so its not ping difference.) Leading us to get hit when we shouldn't have and we would tank more hits than we should have, leading to us losing our A+ ranks on several occasions (another reason why the grading system is horrible IMO.)
- For some reason, a bunch of the base-kit stuff (sliding, using items on the ground straight away, etc) from the beta has been turned into upgrades you have to use resources getting, for people who didn't play the beta, this is fine. But for someone who played it extensively like me, this feels very lazy. And the game feels so much more sluggish without them. I could have accepted these if they didn't give us the upgrades for free in the beta.
- I miss the differences in the different difficulties. For example, if you played the easiest difficulty in the beta, you wouldn't have to find gasoline for the generators, but in the higher difficulties you had to find the gasoline and they would add more objectives for each difficulty that went up. I thought this added some nice change for people who naturally got better and went to higher difficulties.

Either way, the game is still really fun and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun co-op horror game to play with friends, I'm just a little disappointed in some of the changes is all and to me, its very clear its still in development.

So it's into the Void
Now me girls and me boys
From Mother's hands we go
We'll be sailing to the sun
Till the voyage is done
Then we'll be sleeping in the cold below

Sisters! Below, below
We're going where the winds don't blow
Yes we're all bound down
To the deep and we'll all be
Sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below

Our sailing ships
For the hard and the quick
We roll our load and go
There's a living to be made
Or there's Hell to pay
When you're sleeping in the cold below

Sisters! Below, below
We're going where the winds don't blow
Yes we're all bound down
To the deep and we'll all be
Sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below

There's a man on high
With the Devil in his eye
And a golden hand, I'm told
It can hurt you, it can hold you
He can kick you or console you
When you're sleeping in the cold below

Sisters! Below, below
We're going where the winds don't blow
Yes we're all bound down
To the deep and we'll all be
Sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below

Oh Sisters you
So wise and true
When it's my time to go
Won't you lay me down
Under Granum Crowns
And I'll be sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below

Sisters! Below, below
We're going where the winds don't blow
Yes we're all bound down
To the deep and we'll all be sleeping in the cold below
Sisters! Below, below
We're going where the winds don't blow
Yes we're all bound down
To the deep and we'll all be
Sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below

Today we sail
On the Solar Rail
For there's much we just don't know
So farewell with a kiss
Then it's fast for the mist
Till we're all sleeping in the cold below

This chapter is so.. meh.

Legion, while a cool idea is so boring to play against, the concept of being able to vault pallets and run fast is so cool and honestly it can be fun to just say "screw it, I'm gonna just vault stuff too!" but the playstyle intended for Legion is just.. awful. The idea is that you slap someone with your ability and then chain it into multiple hits, but the hit and run playstyle just doesn't make them fun at all and it's so boring to constantly have to mend against them. Add ontop of that, that most Legion players have no clue how to play to their strengths and just stab you constantly with their ability is just headache inducing most of the time.

Jeff is kinda cool and underappreciated though, and it's really sad because I wish more people would play him, but it's such a tactical disadvantage to play Jeff. He's the loudest survivor in the game and it is really easy to track him sadly. My boy Jeff needs more love from both BHVR and the community.

I really don't want to just spew negative crap constantly, but this chapter's release was horrendous.

The Devs seemingly forgot that lockers were a thing and the Twins on release couldn't do anything about them at all. It took them weeks to add a mechanic for Victor to be able to hold lockers closed. Which is REALLY bad. Ontop of that, the Twins have such a boring playstyle that is either facecamp with Victor at hook and play Charlotte like normal until killer instinct comes up and switch back and get free pounce on the person getting the save, and/or slugging everyone in the match with Victor. They then had the stupid idea to make Victor have a cooldown of 5 seconds when he knocks someone down. This didn't help anything. It just made Victor very sluggish to play and because you can just get him back after like 6 seconds of him being kicked, ultimately means nothing to stop the slug meta with the Twins.

As for Elodie, she's nothing special. Her lore was interesting and her connection to Felix was kinda cool, but her perks are garbage and all of her skins are terrible and buying a chapter just for lore just isn't worth it. Give this one a hard miss honestly.

Honestly, I started out hating this chapter so much. But my opinion of both the survivor and the killer has changed so much over time

I used to find the Trickster really cringe and just awful. I saw him as nothing more than kpop boy-band member with machine gun knives, but he's so much more than that. Everything about him is so well done, his Terror Radius/Chase theme sound amazing (even better once you realise it sounds like people screaming, something that he would literally add to his music in the lore) and just the little things with him, like his chuckles and laughs if he gets consistent hits on survivors and his voice lines when he gets stunned and such. He has so much charm and is so creepy at the same time. I also love almost all the outfits he has available. They're all such good showoffs of Korean fashion and show off some amazing styles.

The survivor, Yun-Jin Lee is also very interesting, she's tough as nails, don't take no crap kind of lady and we haven't seen that before in DbD, she's very interesting and the more lore she gets the more we learn about how far she's come and the hardships she's endured that make her such a good survivor.

I'm honestly astunded at how BHVR can make me appreciate something I never liked before, I am someone who never liked Kpop but love this chapter and everything that came with it. Gold star from me BHVR. Good job.

Stay the hell away from this chapter.

BHVR made a deal with the owners of Hellraiser to make NFTs with the models for Pinhead. I wish I could refund this so badly as I never agreed to further global warming and BHVR should be ashamed of themselves.

If that isn't enough for you, they removed the amazing voice lines from the PTB.

While the Boon Totems were a brilliant idea and serve as an amazing indirect counter to Hex: No One Escapes Death. They were added to the game in such a terrible state that there were about 4 maps that had spots where the killer couldn't snuff out the boons (which as of now, they have only JUST fixed) and they didn't even disable the maps, just the offerings. Ontop of that, Boon: Circle of Healing was disabled for a week because it just outright crashed people's games.

This is yet another case of BHVR releasing something way ahead of when it should have been added and clearly shows their incompetence. Really sad too, because these Boon Totem perks had so much potential.

At least Mikela Reid is cool, I suppose.

It's sad when Fortnite has much better models for Jill than this chapter does. Let that sink in, really sad.

Also RPD while a really faithful adaptation of the one from the RE2 and 3 remakes, is an awful DbD map and needs to go.
