Had an absolute blast playing this campaign, game ran incredibly well, story was absolutely interesting enough to keep me going, looks really really good and multiplayer in my experience was seamless playing with a mate on PS5/PC. People have said combat is repetitive and it is a little with the combos not being hugely expansive but the joy of just ripping hordes of enemies apart was so much fun, the environments felt huge and the sense of scale in this is next level. Other things I've seen is performance issues and server issues for some, but no crashes, no disconnects or anything for me so it seems hit and miss depending on your setup.

Ran it all maxed fine with lowest frames being around 40 with 3070ti and 14k intel at upscaled 4k and looked super crisp.

Looking forward to hammering some of the side content and welcome any further content based DLC! More of this!

Fair warning this is a hit and miss purchase.

My entire playtime has basically been figuring out why I get about 5 seconds of menu time before the game locks up and crashes. Tried this on my desktop with a 3070/i7 and laptop with integrated graphics, happens on both. Tried all sorts of generic fixes, however others seem to have success with it, googling basically resulted in being told "there's autosaves so at least we don't lose much progress." Massive shame because outside of the menu the game runs great!

This game crashed to desktop 3 times in around 45 mins of play time, saves reverted back by 5 mins each time so I didn't get far. Dropped all graphics to minimum and same thing happened, cannot recommend a game that isn't working.

For anyone interested I have 16gb ram, a 3070ti with latest drivers and a decent i7, definitely an issue with the game, and have found a good few reddit posts complaining about the same issue on console as well as PC.

Will happily change my review if this is fixed - shame.

I originally reviewed the base game a while ago but I'm rewriting it because of the, as I see it, unwarranted negative reviews being attributed to its expansion - Iceborne. I have read through a lot of them and the complaints being put forward simply are not true, even at the time of writing.

Preface of; the optimisation upon release was absolutely appalling and a noticeable chunk of the negative reviews were due to this, with a decent amount of those saying they'll change the review when it's fixed.
Well, it's fixed and the reviews haven't changed. Please do not read these and dismiss this game based upon these comments.

If you DON'T know what Monster Hunter is about, you smack huge monsters about with loads of different weapons/playstyles solo or with up to 4 player MP. You farm new weapons and armor to fight bigger, stronger monsters with a token story to tie it together.

Clutch claw seems to be such a controversial deal breaker for a lot of players writing these reviews so let me throw my 2 cents in.
There's nothing wrong with it.
Is it OP and ruining the game? No. You can indeed use the claw to fire your slinger ammo into the monsters eyelids to cause it to turbo forward into a wall or something, knocking it down for some free slappage. You A, have to get to the monsters head, which with later game monsters takes a lot of good timing to not get thrown off, a bit of luck and it doesn't work if they're enraged.
People are complaining that the weakening system is better for heavier weapons over lighter due to the amount of times you have to claw to the monster and attack a specific spot to 'weaken' it and give you extra damage. Logically that makes sense, to get the damage of 1 hit of a hammer, you have to do multiple with dual blades for example.

Another negative review stated that the monsters do little attacks that "punish you for trying to do this thing you didn't actually want to do in the first place". Yeah, you have to time your claw grabs to avoid these things. Use rocksteady or temporal to weather the flinch attacks that knock you off. CC to the monster when it's exhausted and not moving. Another is that it's finicky and you don't always grab the place you 'want' it to. No ♥♥♥♥. The combat is dynamic and the situation is ever changing and you have to react to it, it's like shooting a gun, missing, and complaining that your target is moving so you cant hit the point you want to. It makes no sense as a complaint due to the fact if the CC was 100% hit rate on the place you aim regardless of where the monster is etc, there'd be complaints about that.

There are complaints that the monsters are simply reskins of MHW base game monsters evidently haven't played past 25% of the expansions content because the mid-latter monsters are quite different mechanically and in design. There was a tremendous amount of effort put into this expansion, it's art and monsters and I truly feel it's unfair to disregard the majority of the expansion due to the first few hunts not being ball-crushingly epic/wildly different.

Endgame is criticised a few times as simply being monsters with insane speed and artificial difficulty by adding extra mechanics to a fight. Yes, some monsters are faster and hit harder, yes it can be a bit frustrating, the speed is part of the monster's design and for every 'insanely fast' monster to hunt (furious Rajang was a right bugger), there's 2 more that aren't and use other mechanics to add difficulty/variation to a fight.

This expansion is fantastic, a bunch of the reviews seem to be from people that don't understand that the clutch claw has drawbacks to combat the benefits it provides to make it something you have to time correctly, performance issues that are now fixed or simply that they cant handle the speed/mechanics of some monsters, so take to steam reviews to take their frustration out.

I'm honestly re-writing this review not because I feel the game needs some insane praise or whatever, if you played the base game, you will likely enjoy Iceborne, but because it's (TL;DR) receiving reviews with complaints that;

-Are no longer true (performance etc)
-You simply cant land a CC attempt every time, or that the dynamic combat means you hit the wrong part because a monster has turned between firing/landing, this speaks for itself
-When you do land a CC, a monster attempts to throw you off, the game offers solutions to this with mantles or again ,timing, especially in groups.
-Monsters are too fast/have punishing/difficult/frustrating mechanics to handle. A small selection of the monsters are fast and have awkward mechanics, learn to deal with it, it's part of the game and why we constantly try to beat the next monster.
-Monsters are reskins, they're not.
