Tiered lootboxes promoting agressive gambling is completely uncalled for. It will cost something on the order of $1000 to get all the new tanks for an account like mine. Ridiculous.

I love playing this game, but this is insane.

It is not Half-Life.

If you play them back to back you will feel it in your bones like something's wrong. But it plays close enough to Half-Life to be enjoyable, just take a break between games.

The best parts for nostalgia are the occasional environment that gets copy-pasted from Half-Life, a quaint throwback - like eating the cherry atop a ice cream sundae - exquisite, but never overstaying its welcome. Let me be clear, it's not just nostalgia, Half-Life is the perfect shooter and without the same people making this, it was impossible for them to bring the same feel. It is truly remarkable they got as close as they did. The levels are a little more claustrophobic and design is nonsensical.

In Half-Life, Black Mesa feels like a truly labyrinthine facility but like it could still exist in real life. In this it feels like a bunch of hazards duck-taped together with the occasional "member-berry" thrown in. There are some really good, original set pieces in this, but it doesn't make up for the whole game. The puzzles are marginally worse than Half-Life; sometimes requiring save-scumming and sometimes abominably frustrating, but overall fit the same philosophy. Race X is stupid and unnecessary. The shooting is marginally better than Half-Life, it's more reliable and accurate. The new guns are neat, but the old guns feel best. The wrench is agonizing and no crowbar.

If you liked or loved Half-Life, play this anyway.

P.S. Make sure to turn off the 'new models' option in the settings, old shotty is better than new shotty.

It really is the perfect first person shooter. Hard to put into words, the pacing, environmental storytelling, mechanics, enemy design; everything is timed and polished brilliantly. All it takes is playing Opposing Force or Blue Shift to feel how much better Half Life is to play.

Just skip Xen at the end. Lol.

Fantastic Game! I've played it a couple times now with 8 or so people and it really is a blast. Local co-op is really where it's at with this type of game (gotta be able to yell at your enemies), but online multiplayer is on the way and i'm looking forward to it.

Well polished for Early Access (for all you folks who worry about junk Early Access games, you don't need to fear). Runs well in 4K with an Intel i5-4690K and AMD Radeon Fury Nano. It supports pretty much any modern gamepad you can buy, I've tested Xbox (360 + One), PS4, Gamecube + Mayflash USB adapter, and Wii U Pro + Mayflash USB adapter.
