Upddate 2: Over a year after release I am still playing this game. Recently started to play the game with the Origin Characters as my mains. So worth it. I you have not done that yet. Don't miss out. Even if you know their story having them as companion. The Narrator does an AMAZING job in their defining moments.

Update: After almost 400 hours of playing this I finally got all the way through the finish line with a playthrough. And man was it a ride. The game just kept being fun and engaging all the way through the end. Easily my personal GotY 2023 and my favourite RPG I have played so far ever

Original Review:
Larian just did it again. Divinity Orignal Sin 2 was my RPG of the 2010s (Yes even better than Witcher 3).

And so far (like back with Original Sin have yet to play past the first big area an already have been playing 60 hours) it looks like they are pulling it off again. They took the killer combination of VERY good systems and VERY strong narrative from DIvinity Original Sin 2 and applied to Baldurs Gate. In the process they even made the DnD Rules that drive everything actually fun. Something none of the highly praised DnD games that came before were able to do for me.

I am currently on my fourth start over, trying to find what class I like best. Problem is: every class I tried so far is actually fun to play, and the interactions and how the story unfolds can be so different amongst them that I end up playing almost the whole starting area every time because it is fun to see how different things play out depending on what you do.

I really am getting flashbacks to Divinity Original Sin 2 where I endet up doing the same: Playing the whole starting prison island bit about 4 or 5 times before actually moving on.

The game is so open and reactive in this first bit that it comes hauntiongly close to the holy grail of making every player's experience truely unique.

And I did not even look into the origin characters. What is hinted at in the interactions I had with them as companions so far already is super interesting and deep.

If the game stays on this level up until the end we actually have a strong contender for RPG of the 2020s on our hands. Actually the only game that could snatch that title would be a release of Elder Scrolls 6 before 2030 and Bethesda being able to pull off another Skyrim.
