In a story that already feels completely air tight and more than the sum of its parts Mobius Digital has done it again by following up Outer Wilds with Echoes of the Eye. It ties into the existing narrative in a way that feels completely organic in a mechanically and emotionally satisfying way. By the time you wrap things up it feels like it was there the whole time and could have been there the whole time and that is a marvel in a story you thought was complete.

It plays out more like a sequel in terms of environments and the way the story is told but it all feels very in universe still. In the base game the story is largely told by your translator tool and reading text snippets throughout the game that you have to piece together into a larger narrative. I wont spoil how they dole out the story in the DLC but it is a genius pivot that is quite different while still feeling right at home in the Outer Wilds Universe. Mobius basically made the best game ever on their first try and then followed that up by making the best DLC ever on their first try.

This is one of the most charming games i have ever played. It will make you smile a laugh and the gameplay and controls are tight and smooth. A silly story and expansive worlds just adds to the whole experience. I enjoyed it so much that i think i prefer it over Mario Odyssey.

This is the best metroidvania type game i have played that isn't actually a Meroid game. It is challenging and does not hold your hand in the slightest. The fantasic music and immersive atmosphere complete the experience
