I fear that Destiny is past its prime and the hands of death are beginning to grasp it.

How long do we as a community need to cope with the fact that the game just isn't good anymore?
How long do we as a community need to be "understanding" and "empathetic" toward Bungie?
How long do we as a community need to lie to ourselves about enjoying this slop?

After years of doing all of these things, the current situation at Bungie has driven the nails into the proverbial coffin. Bungie has completely dissolved while destroying their money printer, all in favor of pushing boats of money into mobile games, TV shows, movies and games that will die on release (Marathon).

Bungie thought they could pull a Halo and move on from Destiny by gouging the playerbase with full priced DLCs, full priced Seasons and thousands of Eververse items in hopes of starting new projects. Where did that go? Hundreds of layoffs, hundreds of bad updates, millions of players quitting the game, and the company on the verge of dissolving. Destiny has been ran into the ground for a bag of money and broken promises.

The Final Shape felt like Bungie's magnum opus during launch week until the cracks started to show. The game just isn't as good as we all think it is and its a harsh reality watching the game you love turn so rancid. There is almost no reason to actually play the game anymore, and the only reason many of us still do is because it feels like home.

The promise that Episodes would be different than Seasons and allow Bungie to do more and make more content feels like a facade. Corporate wording to get preorder sales. Usually, the season/Episode that follows an expansion is the weakest of the bunch, but seeing the structure of Echoes has me nauseated at the thought of logging in for Revenant. What's even worse is, I think removing timegating from the Episode story will make the game lose players even faster because a majority of the players left are going to blast through that on patch day, and never come back.

With no prospect of a Destiny 3, and Destiny 2 being backburnered to only receive "smaller content releases," it feels like we are in the last legs of the franchise itself. If you were alreadyburnt out because the game has nothing important to do anymore, the feeling that it will end soon only amplifies that.

There is no magic anymore. There is no wow factor anymore. Its a checklist that you have to complete because you are addicted to it. Its a game I used to love, and now its a game that I can't even find a reason to open. I don't think I'll ever quit, but I am certainly changing my relationship with the game. I suggest more of you do the same.

I love Destiny, but I hate what its become.
