Vanilla SMT V is already an excellent RPG even with its narrative shortcomings. Even just for that I'd recommend it.

After finish the new story, I can absolutely say its one of the best Megami Tensei entries, most likely top 5, definitely top 3 Shin Megami Tensei games.

Fixes most everything wrong with the vanilla game, fleshes out what was lacking and strengthens what was already strong.

Takes pretty much everything good about Thief 1 and does it better. Better story, better missions, better level design, more fun enemies. After playing it I totally get why it has the legacy that it does.
