Underrated game in the age series.
The damage slowdown is still annoying and is a feature that seemlingly counters strong micro, but its not at all a deal breaker. Creating multiple deck strategies for each civ allows for infinite civ replayability, really fun stuff.

People keep comparing this to L4D2, and as an avid L4D2 fan with many hundreds of hours on it, i can wholeheartedly say that B4B is really good. it takes zombie killing in a slightly different direction, as you cant just dumpster specials on veteran or nightmare in 1 mag or less, but that isnt a bad thing. it was an intentional direction choice by the developers and it was a good one. In L4D2 you can basically sprint through a level by yourself even without skips and massive out of map glitches and make it to the end with virtually no resistance if you know what you are doing, with the exception of some of the events. The developers saw this and they realized it broke what was originally a fun 4 player co-op experience. Sprinting through a level full speed without stopping for anything at all did make L4D2 fun, but if you want that, then stick to L4D2. B4B adds so many features and design changes specifically to avoid this type of gameplay. It forces teams to stick together and fight specials TOGETHER, to take events TOGETHER and even make small decisions TOGETHER, such as giving your teammates currency or ammo to help the group stay alive or buy an item in the shop. When I play this game I see countless decisions from a Game Designer's perspective that ensure that for a team to succeed, they must be able to cooperate together. For Everything. Even down to the ammo count, it was precisely calculated to start players with certain amounts of ammo so that they cannot kill tons of zombies through a whole level and never run out of ammo. Instead, there are ammo drops, but not infinite ammo every 100 meters like in L4D2. Instead you ask your teammates for ammo. Small decisions like these help ensure that this truly is the best in 4p Coop Zombie Killing Goodness. There are only 2 true complaints that I have:

1: there is no votekick. in veteran players are able to damage eachother. not having a votekick allows players to grief. L4D2 has a massive problem with griefers, but has a votekick feature. I have only played 60 hours and already I have experienced this to quite a degree, but not very often. This game MUST implement a votekick feature in the future. Also just writing this line before I hit post, I continually match with players who have not even beaten even a few levels on Recruit in a Veteran difficulty lobby and they continually grief by shooting birds or making incredibly stupid decisions. should be restricted from higher difficulties or have a votekick option for these players PLEASE!!!!!

2: There is no versus like in L4D2. yes swarm mode exists however it is not the classic Versus experience that I love so much about L4D2. It is merely survival versus. survive in a given area and whichever team lasts the longest wins. This has been implemented somewhat recently in L4D2, and the response was severely negative by the Versus playing community. It is not nearly as fun as each team running through a whole level and doing their best to survive, and whoever runs farthest wins. It sounds similar on paper, however, the classic Versus where you run through a full level is immensely competitive, encourages heavy learning and map knowledge, and is overall incredibly fun. otherwise, Survival Versus you just sit and camp and try not to die the end. it is far less entertaining than classic Versus. I know they have said in the past that they do not think that the B4B levels are designed for classic Versus, but I think that there is a balance that can be achieved that will allow them to be. I very much hope that they pursue this mode as it will definitely add to the depth of the game on so many levels.

Thanks for reading,
Overall score: 9/10 and I'm a picky bastard. fix those two issues and its definitely a 10/10 no doubt.
