Well with souls games its always hard but fair...

This is not fair.

I feel like I have to either play a bleed build, a frost build, or cheese the hell out of it.

I am actively discouraged from enjoying the game.

Enemies are literally triple or double health and thats not hard its tedious. Thats what this dlc feels like. Tedious

It took me legit 20 minutes to kill one boss. I felt great, but realized that most of the bosses are like this. Its just not fun anymore to play this dlc.

This is just not fun.

As a souls vet of almost every game and DLC. I do not recommend people to play this dlc it doesn't improve the base game. it doesn't add really much to the main game that is even worth noting. Its a huge jump in difficulty but not the fun type of difficulty. This is not a fair DLC.

Skip wait for price drop.

This is without a doubt my favorite star wars game to date. I adore the story, the gameplay, the characters, the world. Often I hear remarks that star wars is quite limited. This is a sentiment I agree with, with its over reliance on nostalgia baiting. This game does not rely on nostalgia but instead the intelligence of the player.

One of the best RTS's! Have had a ton of fun playing. Highly recommend people give it a try! Its relatively short games and yet has a ton of depth of just where to spend the income you make.

In addition the game becomes challenging overtime and more strategies are unlocked with new buildings, research capabilities that are added in each successive update. That only adds more depth to the game you are playing. You can play it small bites, or large bites depending on what you want to do. The challenge is entirely in your hands, with mutations or perks to add.

Highly recommend it its probably one of my favorite indie games I've started 2024 with!

Man I wish I could say that I loved this DLC. I really do. But if its signs for things to come then I recommend staying away from warhammer 3 until they fix their content patching and the DLC prices. Not worth avoid.

Game of the year tbh.

EDITTING AFTER A FEW YEARS AND ANNIVERSARY!

The Good

The game is one of the best strategy games released in the last 2 years. Harboring one of the most interesting and cusotmizable races, rulesets, and maps to choose from. With great customization, roleplay options, its basically everything that we love of 4x's and hex games that really make it shine.

The best part is that almost every race, is customizable from the word go, from culture, to what they ride.

Cultures are Races / Different Playthroughs

Alas. These customizations only effect visual and some gameplay opportunties, the true differences in how a 'race' plays is by culture. Cultures are emblematic of what the race actually plays like. Each culture has a speciailizations, and abilities, and different mechanics that make up the whole. This further customized by what Wizard you play, you can be a lord, a dragon (DLC) , a giant (DLC), a normal wizard, a Necromancer, so many different styles but how much of that effects gameplay is I feel minimal except for how your main character plays, and how you could potential roleplay the character.

The cultures are more of the interest here, they are what define a playthrough, either you be dragon or a giant means very little when it comes to actual gameplay decisions. Compare it more to a Macro vs Micro decision, Cultures are massive decisions, what race and lord or leader you have is more minor... Until you get to specializations. These are essential culture specific sometimes, but also are universal.

Each of these can change your playstyle significantly and can also add to your experience as a whole, this is all selected from the faction / lord creation screen, and is probably the coolest part of the game.

The Cons

Honestly, the biggest problems I have are more of that all these races and everything kind of lose their value by not having more specific race characters or things. In the older age of wonders, each race had 1 particular champion creature that only they could get from their buildings, in AGe of Wonders 2, high elves get Fairy Dragons, Dwarves get steam tanks, etc etc. Each of these champion units were expensive and took building all of the resource chain to get there.

I have been playing and I always felt it was weird we really don't have this outside of the research techtree, essentially the final unit of that culture that is emblematic of it. As I feel AOW1-2, and even 3. Did a very good job of making at least each race interesting, and a bit more important. Along with making each city feel more dynamic in architecture.

While I love the customization options of each race, I do feel it vanillia's each race a bit too much for my liking. Maybe thats just more of a me thing. There are no high elves, dark elves, star elves, or undead elves, there are just elves. There is no difference really in comparison to the other games. I am a stapler for the original game's lore and I severely miss some of the narrative story telling that was apparent in AOW2 and AOW1. Even 3 had its highpoints, as did Shadow Magic.

Storywise it feels very disjointed and feels more like missions then a single well told story. In AOW2 for example you played as Merlin as he mastered each magic, going around the wheel of each element and different races as you learn the complicated politics of the Wizard Throne. Its what really attracted me to the series especially its twist, unfortunately AOW4 does not have a great story.

Conclusion

I am still heavily recommending this game but it does not have the original experience that I think many diehard AOW2 fans are looking for when it comes to storytelling. If you are new to AOW I highly recommend this game, if its your first foray into this genre it is the best in class. And maybe try out AOW2 when you get the chance! Amazing game, great dlcs. highly recommend you give it a try!

Good game, a bit grindy, but nothing that a few tunnel borers won't fix. Easily one of the best games in the last year in the genre since Terraria's release.
