Really addicting tool to use. If you grew up on Smash as a kid and ever thought "I want to make X into a character!!" this is the easiest way to make that happen with pretty wide creative freedom.

The 1.0 release adds the Stage Builder, which is REALLY fun. Community is still small, and there are several features that should be added to the game, but even in its current state, this game deserves a blowup.

2023 Update (Snowflake Coomers Mad Edition):
Check playtimes of anyone writing these reviews. Anyone who's actually playing this video game in the last 5 years is fine with the changes. The only content that you can really say is "removed" is the Soviet Announcer Voicepack, which nobody ever paid for... it was just IN the game over the course of its many updates.

Without question one of the most forward-thinking fighters in the genre right now. While keeping true to its 2D-fighting game roots, LabZero recognizes some of the flaws and annoyances from other fighting games and seeks to correct them.

Faulty netcode? Nope, we've got GGPO.
Unexplained mechanics? Nope, pretty much everything you could want is given to you in the tutorials. More than that, it's done in a way that will challenge newcomers without overwhelming them.
Unblockable setups? Handled.
Unbalanced metagame? Not here.

The community is currently not too big, so the players you'll find on quick match are generally somewhat skilled and experienced. Because of this, the game might be difficult to get into for a newcomer. But it truly is worthwhile to keep practicing and improve your skills.
