I've played the game for a good amount of hours already, and here are the list of pros and ♥♥♥♥ for this game. Here's my honest and unbiased review.

-Gameplay
Overall, the Gameplay feels very smooth, there are very few flaws far and in between, and even if they were, they were too small to notice. As you no doubt already know, ammo is exceedingly scarce, and more often that not you're always making decisions whether or not to go straight head on and risk extra ammo in favor of health, or take the stealthy path and go for a sneak kill, or to avoid the fight entirely and hide or escape. The enemies are not the only threat, there are various traps around the environment that can actually be used to your advantage. Again, I find myself making decisions again, should I disarm this trap for my crossbow or should I leave it there and trick my enemies into it. The game comprises of these seemingly minor decisions that ultimately will break or make your character. On the downside, your main weapon, which is the pistol, doesn't always go smoothly. The aim is not exact and the bullet doesn't necessarily hit where you intend to. This can cause trouble in longer ranged fights in which ammo is already scarce; you cannot be affording to miss headshots or shots altogether completely. This might make things harder to deal with, as you're only allowed a maximum of 16 bullets minus upgrades. 8.5/10

-Visual
The game's graphics and cutscenes are absolutely topnotch, just what'd you expect from a next gen game. Many details are brought to life, such as insects in the environment, and shadows casting on the walls actually tell you where your enemies are facing, which is an important gameplay mechanic when you're enemies are outside your line of sight but you need to sneak pass them or get behind them. The only issue about the graphics is mainly the main character's lack of expression. When he is attacked, he shows minor signs of change, and it doesn't reflect the pain that is inflicted upon him.
8/10

-Story
I will not spoil anything here at all, however what I can say is, if you're expecting a story in which everything is fed to you and that you can understand it in one playthrough, you're going to be disappointed. The story is deep and complex, albeit it becomes a point where it is unnecessary and clunky in certain areas, and it feels too ambitious. The story isn't just given to you in the form of cutscenes, hidden throughout the stage are audio logs and notes, in which you might have to do more exploration in order to uncover them. This makes it slightly less obvious and it obscures certain facts. However I believe that this is a game that makes the story more complete in the form of sequels, and to take it all in in one sitting may be too much for one to bear.
6/10

-Verdict
The Evil Within is a very unique experience, although its game mechanics are nothing new, (Stealth, backstabbing, disarming traps and hiding in closets) The Evil Within does an excellent and fantastic job to blend all these together, and overall, I daresay there hasn't been such a proper survival horror game since Resident Evil 4. The lack of ammo, the overwhelmingly stronger enemies, the variety of enemies and locations all blend together perfectly. Nothing is left to chance and almost everything is determined by the player's choice and skill. The story isn't complete and there are questions you have that will be unanswered, yet I believe it is the sort of game that uncovers more through the sequels. All in all, I highly recommend The Evil Within to new and old fans alike. For old fans, there are many similarities with Resident Evil 4. and if you're familiar with Shinji Mikami's works there are many points in the game that will feel familiar to you and you will feel right at home. For the newer fans, the game might seem bizarre and alien to you, although it doesn't feel unnatural or out of place. Everything fits like clockwork and runs perfectly and smoothly. My final verdict for this game, is a 9/10.
